I have my seven, all track bikes and I'm hoping to stick with my convictions, no more

1893 Kenmore
1898 LaClede
1932 Bates
1947 CCM, flyer
1958 Carleton, given to Norman Sheil by Carleton for winning the 1958 World Pursuit Championships
1980 Marinoni, Decaled in AMF colours. 36 flat spoked wheels, Columbus, original Wolber Pista tires from 1980, campagnolo record, this bike broke three WR's , 200m-500m-1000m
1982 Raleigh 753, team issue out of Ilkeston, Campagnolo record gear ( I'm still looking for some Clement tires to finish it off)

I also have 2 Harry Quinns from the late 70's, but no equipment, just the frames

If I could keep only seven bikes in my fleet, I'd have to go out and buy another.

Yeah, I'd have to buy two. Maybe one of them could be a Seven.

As of now, I have:

1. 1974 Raleigh International, NYC - still not finished painting. Will build up soon.
2. 1971 Raleigh Super Course, NYC - spare bike, good for guests
3. 1975 Viscount fixed gear, NYC - light errands and commuting
4. 1982 McLean racing bike, High Falls - fun weekend rides, currently under rebuild
5. 1995 Bianchi Volpe, NYC - all-purpose errand and commuting and touring bike, heavily used
6. 1973 Raleigh Twenty, NYC - always in disrepair, never ridden
7. 20?? Burley Zydeco tandem, High Falls - still not ready to ride, and I share with my wife
8. 1962 Rudge Sports, Florida - only ridden when I visit my mother-in-law
9. 1994 Lemond Ti, High Falls - not built yet, fun weekend rides

Bikes are in three locations, so do I get to have seven in each, or do I have to get down to seven in total?

I like having guest bikes!

I notice that three of these I have not even ridden once yet and one has barely ever been ridden, which suggests I do have too many bikes.

Well, pretty much all seven fit all three of those categories. As far as the Norman Fay, that was a tough call, but I figured if I had to choose one of the seven to tour, it would be the RB-T. I also don't have any 650B bikes on my list. Sacré bleu!

I do need to keep the recumbent for medical / therapy purposes and our tandem... this still leaves a few for the wife to claim as her own.

As it is I am planning on thinning the herd to make space in my shop... have already sold my Moulden custom and my 1954 Raleigh and Garlatti have some interested buyers.

Will add one more bike this year as I decided to replace my Pugsley (sold that to a friend) with a new Norco... will consider that my 50th birthday present and it will be a very useful bike for our lunar like winters.

Am I the only one who prefers projects to finished bikes? I'd be bored pretty quickly with nothing to tinker with.

Not at all. I'm always tinkering. And I'm sure that's true for most of us and it's why so many of us have too many bikes.

I usually prefer a total project as well, in which I consider each component on its own merits.

The new bike I have coming by August is a total build though.

So far beyond turn key it's in a different universe.

No pics right now but my 7 are listed to your left.

But wait! I have a Tommasini in the build process! If I had to, I guess I would lose the Teschner TT bike as I've ridden it once in the past year or so. Once I've had a bike for more than a month or so I can't stand to part with it. They're like puppies that don't pee or poop on everything.

At the moment:

Keepers:
2007 TiCycles road
2011 TiCycles road fix gear
1979 Peter Mooney (This bike is an all rounder. It was built to be rideable 12 months of the year in the 48 states as a link to sanity after my head injury. I now have bikes that that each do something the Mooney can do but better. It doesn't get ridden much, but it has earned its keep. And though I don't tour much, it is an excellent touring bike.)

And not so permanent:
1983 Trek 420, now a winter/rain/city fix gear. (Of course, details of this bike will change. This is frame #5 . But the best one yet.)
1974? Raleigh Carlton International set up as a gravel bike w/ 32c Paselas, triple and centerpulls. (New to the fleet and a whole lot of fun! This summer the paint will get stripped and the frame checked out and documented by TiCyles. They may build me a replacement if this one has issues. This bike is a celebration of 531 tubing at its best. On a bike that was sloppily built, but what a ride!)

And the other two? Gotta think that over.

Ben

I actually did this, sending close to 200 vintage road bikes to new homes, and most for free, recently. I kept...

196? Legnano Gran Premio...

1976 Marinoni Quebec...

Late eighties Cyclops...

1977 Motobecane Gran Jubilee...

Recently acquired Waterford - not published yet...

Sent to me for free Mercier (will be riding this guy in Winnipeg while visiting kids and grand kids)...

CCM roadster, fifties something I think and my cottage bicycle...

and, my Jamaica Peugeot but it will be given away in six weeks (want a free vintage Peugeot - pick up only, Treasure Beach, Jamaica...

Well, that is actually eight bikes, but one will be gone in a short while, and the CCM doesn't really count. Heck, I store it outside and have never cleaned it off.

Back when I had 25+ bikes I sold off everything that didn't fit me and worked from there.

I don't have much any more....

1978 Motobecane Team Champion
1984 Paramount
1987 Paramount

That's it.

In no particular order:
My new '94 pre-Trek Greg Lemond project. <3

Look Equippe Badgerbike

86 Schwinn Pelotwins

Globe Live 3 dog-taxi. (Not at all vintage, but possibly a classic someday). Belt drive, hydraulic disks, an AXA Dutch-style frame lock, and porteur rack which fits the dogbed perfectly (even the color-match was an happy accident.)

'84 Masi Gran Criterium. (Currently changing over to Ultegra 6400 tricolor group.)

Locomotief Populaire office - errand bike. Drum brakes, enclosed chain, 3-speed gears, an AXA frame lock, and I'm pretty sure those "tubes" are not hollow, but are actually solid steel rods.

And some hunka-junk mountainbike I can beat on, throw around, call dirty names, and then hose off & throw back in the garage with zero emotional attachment.
