My great passion in life is vintage cars, and this is reflected in my two older bikes, a 1948 Humber "The Aristocrat of Bicycles" and a 1938 World (private label brand manufactured by Schwinn). The Humber is notable for the excellent original condition and factory accessories, the World for the sprung front fork and built-in headstock key lock — apparently one could get a discount on theft insurance with this lock on one's bike. I bought the Humber last summer from a local Harley enthusiast and the World about 20 years ago at an old car swap meet in WA. The daily rider is a 2001 Giant MTB.

Welcome to the forums here.

The old bikes are interesting, it seems like the Humber had the recipe down for the 1960's 3-speeds that followed.

I like the World's heavy-duty tires and fenders. A lot of "pre-war" bikes were melted down for the war machine, making yours perhaps an unlikely survivor.

As I understand it, some models were only offered in the step-thru frame design, for use by men or women.

Welcome to Bikeforums! Like you, I'm a classic car guy who enjoys tinkering with bikes just as much. You've got some rare, classic steel with great lines. I guess the custom car creed "Profile is Everything" is true for bicycles as well!
