Bumping. A little over two weeks.
Not getting my mileage in due to work, unable to get long rides due to part-time gig on Saturdays, but I'll be OK.
Compact Campy double, 11-28 rear, I'll be OK.
Bike is light enough, I'm too heavy.

Work and spring honeydos are getting in the way for me also. I'm getting in the miles on a spin bike at the gym. (at night) That sucks! By 10 the gym is almost empty and the scenery is gone. I ran a very hilly 1/2 marathon on the 18th. I did well despite the weight and lack of training. So I should be okay. I got the son's 83 Lotus finished so we have been taking some short rides as well. The Lotus might be the lightest bike I have now. It is a 49cm frame and is noticeably lighter than my 25lb Lejeune. It feels lighter than my wife's 52cm Team Miyata. Both are running triples with almost identical wheelsets and drivetrains except for the brifters on the Miyata. I will do a weigh in to see.
Anyway, I'm in kind of a tri training blitz mode trying to cut weight. Swimming, running, bricks, treading water, the whole nine yards. I'm getting excited!

Should be fun. As the Official Old retired Guy in the group, I've been able to put in a lot of miles- 138 last week alone, a bunch of it with hills- and this will be my 4th organized century of 2015. This weekend am riding 186 miles in Dallas with the BikeMS folks, plus a couple rides earlier in this week.
Robbie, you are too modest. On a bad day you're better than me at my best.

rccardr,
Have a good time this week. I was raised north of DFW in the Wichita Falls area.(home to the Hotter N Hell Bike ride) I went and looked at your ride map. It looks like you will be rolling around the Metroplex. On day 2 you will go to Decatur but the Metroplex has just about grown out to there. Similar to Northern Va. If you have some extra time to ride, the area immediately to the west of Fort Worth will give you some different scenery. The area including Graham, Jacksboro, Bridgeport, Mineral Wells and Weatherford would make for a nice ride. 20 years ago a lot of the MS ride would have been rural in spaces of emptiness. Now it's mostly in the city. In another 20 years the outer limits of the Metroplex should be hitting the TX-OK border.

Yeah, at one point was trying to put together a Hill Country tour either before or after the weekend event, but couldn't get enough interest going to make it happen. Beautiful part of the country, and a good time to do it.

I'm working on the bike as I type this. The Black Cyclone derailleurs are sweet. As a side note, the Suntour BL FD on the son's Lotus is handling a 52/42/30 crankset with no problems. I'm hoping it will be the same with the Cyclone. They are very similar.

I put a 121.5 spindle in and mounted the Takagi triple on the Crescent. I had about 2mm clearance between the small ring and the frame. About 1.5mm because the ring bolts stick out slightly. Is that enough? Other than that, need to put on new cables and tape and adjust everything

By the way......
11 days and a wakeup. Have you got your Thunder on?
One "training" ride in NJ, 100 miles.
Two weeks of storm duty for hail claims.
Back on the saddle almost daily since, 15-25 miles.
Last long ride will be 80 miles this Saturday (to lunch and back)
I trust my gearing.
I know Doc's ready; he's been riding all over the US. Go, Doc!
Can't wait to see you folks there. I'm bringing at least 4 folks with me, but separately....
They won't be on steel, but they're bringing Thunder Ridge resolve.
Not long before we see bike mama Paula and hear the cowbells.
Dig it.

Replaced the compact double and DA 7700 RD/FD on the yellow '88 ST Cannondale with a compact triple (50/34/24) today, since I'm still in recovery mode from the 180+ mile Dallas weekend. The long 13 mile pull up Thunder Ridge really doesn't require more than a 34/28 for me, but those Peaks of Otter are too steep and abrupt for that nonsense, hence the 24/28 Major Maximo gearing just in case.
I learned last year that you can't have too much gearing. Was actually considering taking my Voyageur with the compact triple and 13-30 freewheel, but it's four pounds heavier...

I'll be there. This will be my first year. I was going to do it 2 years ago, but backed out because I had just lost my job and didn't feel comfortable spending the money on a hotel room/trip. So, I'm psych'd for this year. Been training, but no real hills, just multiple trips up and down the steepest street I can find in Del Ray. After reading the posts on steel/vintage bikes, I'd love to bring the '89 Nashbar, but worry about the gearing being too tall. So, I'll bring my daily ride, the Crosscheck with CX gearing. Yea, that should do it..

Meet and greet the celebrities. Doc will be signing autographs.
Saturday night, 6 pm, La Villa, 8109 Timberlake Rd (on Business 460) in Lynchburg.
Great Italian food, excellent prices.
We have the banquet room! We need to get 20.
If you can come, give me a heads up, or I'll be "recruiting" folks from the waiting area.
Kids and spouses welcome, of course.

Daddy's gotta bring home a paycheck this weekend, so I can't ride but I finish work around 6 and will try to swing by. I will send Robbie my phone # so if anyone needs a tool, forgets to bring a wheel, etc, I can try to help out.
The weather here has been gorgeous, looks like it might get a little muggier, but shouldn't be too bad this weekend. Here's a pic from my ride yesterday, on Cifax Rd looking at Thunder Ridge. This will be the beginning of your home stretch on Sunday!

Sounds like fun, and up in my ol' Virginny. I'll be suffering climbing up Mt Cheaha here in AL at the same time, so I'll really be there in spirit with you guys.

Well, we're all here, had dinner, fettled our mounts and set our alarm clocks for pre-sunrise wakening.
Need to get out and finish ahead of the thunderstorms predicted for early afternoon.
