@whatwolf- I was wondering if the brake pads came at the rims straight on or if you had to angle the posts up in order to reach the rim. Can't wait to hear the ride report, especially in regard to braking and cushiness of ride & overall ride quality vs 26" wheels.

You don't play around.

Hot stuff, for sure.

Congrats.

Are you going with a basket or a bag?

Hm. I find the brake posts on cantis are always "angled up" in order to contact the rim squarely, because they travel in an arc.

I'll do a ride report hopefully tomorrow. Keep in mind I don't have a frame of reference as to 26" wheels. Though I do ride a 26er MTB I've never ridden this frame with 26" wheels.

Eventually I'd like to get a big rando bag but a basket will do for now. Glad you like it!

Nice looking ride. If I decide I don't like the paint on mine anymore, I might go clear but in a powdercoat.

First trail ride/gear test was pretty successful. A couple fit issues to take care of but I'm on the right track.

Unsurprisingly this bike rides sort of like a CX-MTB hybrid. Although it weighs almost twice as much as my CX bike it is pretty nimble on technical stuff and very stable at speed. Descending in the drops is confidence inspiring, maybe in part due to the weight of the front rack (3 lbs.) Also perhaps due to the weight on the front end, the front wheel flops around more than I'm used to when going slow and around/over rocks. Our trails here are filled with babyhead rock sections and I found them more difficult to cross on this bike than either my CX (33mm tires) or rigid MTB (2.3" tires.)

I took some detail shots that I'll upload from my camera later, and I'll have to measure the bb height and whatever other questions I hadn't answered before.

@whatwolf - would you consider posting a breakdown of your components? I'm interested in your crankset. Very handsome.

Looks like a TA Cyclotouriste or a Lambert clone of the TA. Parts For Old French Bikes from Harris Cyclery

It's a TA cyclotouriste. I can do a full parts list after dinner.

Here's a couple detail shots... Sadly most of my pics didn't come out well. I'll have to take more later.

Rear brake... plenty of clearance.

I made this improvised light mount out of a Crud Claw and a piece of threadless steerer.

So I checked out both of those pages. Some style. Does this mean if I hang in the right crowd, my friends won't tease me for my dirty, rusty bike?

This is a neat build. I have a nice 89 950 that is begging for a rebirth and I think this might be a viable option (the 650b not the clear coat)

I'd say it's definitely a low risk investment and you might like it!
