Had built up a lovely Wes Mason frameset around 1975 (purchased at Bicyclesport in Toronto after months of saving).....best components I could afford (which wasn't much) - Sugino Mighty Comp, Shimano Crane, etc. Then I discovered cars and the bike sat unridden, eventually to be given (not sold) to a cousin who wanted to go racing. He used it for a short while and again it languished in my aunt's basement for about 30 years....eventually I asked about it (now being interested in vintage) and apparently it went out with the trash when her house was being cleaned out (only a month or so before I asked). I regret such a nice bike meeting such a sad ending.

Had a nice XO-1 and offed it.
I'd take it back today for the same price I sold it for.
Man, those bars were awful, but I'd fix that quickly with some Nitto Randos.

No regrets, yet. I always seem to find something more interesting. I guess it helps that I cap my spend per bike, no no Hetchins or Confente is going to fit within my budget.

Wow... a 76 Trek TX600 would be a super rare bike...
As far as myself... I had an 84 Trek 420. This would have been my first cool vintage bike score. It was cool in that it was really pretty, it rode really nicely- but I've got much better bikes now. But it was really pretty and rode really nicely. And it was Mangaloy. Who gets to say "Mangaloy" often enough? I don't. I think people should.
"Mangaloy."
It looks like ImageShack lost most of my pix of that bike.
I ended up selling it to one of our son's friends who needed a bike for at college. It got clobbered there. But it served him good for a few years, and he really seemed to like it.

i've seen a few of the lesser XOs on CL before but never an orange XO-1, even beat up. Is the frame made from road bike tubing?

80s (?) nishiki. it had a cunningham design decal but I dont remember the model. it was perfect all around!! had an xce group, 26in wheels, braze-ons for three water bottle cages, racks, fenders and a peg for a pump behind the seat tube and drop bars. can't believe I sold that one I've never seen another.
Funny- I went to Schwinn School with him in 1980.

I have too many bikes, and I ought to sell one or more, but I don't because I fear regret. It's a different neurosis.
I sold my Raleigh Gran Sport long ago. I was 19 years old, and I had just bought a Peugeot PXN-10LE. I didn't know the wisdom of N+1 then. I kind of regret it, but I was young and foolish at the time.

Sold the 1972 Masi Gran Criterium that I'd bought new, to pay for the engagement ring for the women I should never have married. So that one hurt twice, although the kids produced by that marriage are awesome. FWIW, that 60cm Masi really wasn't big enough for me, but back then I could deal with that.
I really wanted to love the 1976 65cm Masi GC that my second keeper wife found for me, but that one just couldn't be trusted on a fast descent (the Masi, not the wife!). So the big Masi went to someone who wanted to restore it to period correct and hang it on the wall, and the check nicely covered the following Rivendell Rambouillet, which can be criticized, but not for its descending capabilities.

there is a fine line between riders and hoarders. if you have not ridden a bike in the last year- sell it so that someone else can.

I usually don't have regrets over selling because there are just so many more bikes available. But I do regret selling my Raleigh Team frame bike, Reynolds 531, late 80's. NOT one of those Technium poseurs. The bike fit me perfectly, rode like a dream, my all time favorite. I still claim temporary insanity for that one. I'm getting better though, since I got my steel Bradley (also Reynolds 531) that rides as well as I remember the Raleigh.

I miss my 71 p15 chrome that I converted to a 5 speed (pista crank). That was one sweet ride. I got 3 bikes in the trade, a merckx corsa extra, a colnago super, and a masi gran crit, so while I miss it, I'd do it again... No regret.

My late 80's Bridgestone RB. I bought it in Korea while stationed there and sold it to my roommate when I rotated back to the states. Shoulda shipped it.
