I thought I had seen all the late 80's Schwinn Tempo paint schemes!?
This is a new one on me? Cobalt blue with white top tube, and what looks like 88/89 graphics? I searched all years, and didn't see another like this one. Anyone know what year this might be, until I get it Saturday? The plan is to yank the 8 speed Dura Ace from the Lemond which does not fit me very well, even though it is amazing looking, and put it on this frame. A friend of mine from Lake Charles was selling one of the red/white/green models, but it was too rich for my blood. He then says, OH? I do have this one? The price is too good to be true, and I couldn't pass it up. I get to see it in person. This paint, with the red anodized wheels, and Dura ace with shiny dual pivots. It's going to be a pretty one.,,,,BD

Dug a little deeper into Google and it appears to be an 88. Aside from brifters, my group should look pretty nice on it. Got to find the right wrap, and cable housing color. Maybe yellow bottle cages. You know, play up the color scheme.,,,,BD

When I got my Tempo frame last fall I looked all over for Tempo pics and in the hundreds of pictures I've gone through I've never seen one painted like that either, great score! It's even my size. Yeah, red wheels would really set it off.

Ooooh... Maybe some of that old school fade wrap, if I can find it? The dot matrix looking stuff, in red or yellow to white.
Here's the donor. The top tube length fits, but I have to jack the saddle way up to get the leg extension. A nice sporty ride, but at 47 I fear my race position days are behind me. My hands go numb too easily.,,,,BD
The saddle went up a little more after this pic, which meant the stem had to come up as well.

I have some of that red-to-white fade FUBAR tape, new in the box.
Shoot me an e-mail at rccardr@cox.net if that's what you're looking for.

My 88 frame is the red white and green coloured example. The splashes are yellow green. Like how they spelled out Schwinn on the front of the fork and back of the seat stays.
Will follow your build, might inspire me to re build my Tempo again. I would go classic white Benotto.

That was the first tempo I ever picked up. I have to say that Schwinn spec'd out that bike pretty darn good when they built it. Full Cinelli cockpit, full 105 and a Concor saddle. Not to mention that the tempo was just their mid upper level bike. Those were the days...

That's a nice looking frameset. What size is it? Speaking of the color, I just looked on Yakaz and saw (3) Schwinn Tempos for sale with the same color scheme. I would love to have a late 80s Schwinn Tempo, Super Sport or Prelude in size 25".

I hear you on that observation. I have a 57cm '04 LeMond Buenos Aires (1/2 True Temper, 1/2 carbon) that I used to love but since picking up a 60cm Guerciotti and 62cm Torpado last year, even my 58cm De Rosa and Bianchi bikes don't feel right.

IIRC that is indeed the 88/89 model.. and also IIRC it's the fanciest Tempo frame type ever made. Sweet score!

I was told my Ciocc was a 62cm, so I bought it sight unseen. It turned out to be a 60cm, feels really small...and I hate all the excessive seatpost showing. Plans are to sell it and find something larger. Right now I'm grooving on these late 80's Schwinns.

Very cool Tempo. Looking forward to seeing it built up and on the road.

Grail bike? Anything late 80's. The wilder the graphics, the better. That has to be at least a 60cm or I'm a monkey's uncle.

23" models(the size smaller than this) do not fit me very well. Just a touch too small. The 25" like this one are a touch too large, but works out better fit wise. I'd rather be on the large side and be a little more upright, than leaning on my hands. I have normal length legs, and a long torso, which is why I hoped the Lemond would work out.
rccardr: That sounds like the stuff. I am at a deficit on white saddles again. It seems like all of my road bikes demand one. I also found a white repop Turbo lately, but it went right on the Vitus tubed Peugeot with the white Sante group. I guess I could swipe the white Concor off of the PH10. I haven't ridden it in two years, and the last ride on it was 62 miles. Is this the tape you have?

Is it the vinyl texture, or synthetic cork? It's hard to tell in the picture.

I have seen that at a few bike shops, with the Army green pkg, right? No one ever stocked that though. I probably would have had some already. Shoot a PM? Or I will?,,,,BD
