In other words, he's no Chuck Norris.
I didn't picture him as a Chuck Norris. All this banter is about what a legend Grant is and how he is both loved and reviled. I'm glad to hear his demeanor is as I imagine it. I'd like to meet him one day. My daughter works in Walnut Creek, so it could happen.

He pretty much is like he presents himself. My neighbor works at Riv, I see Grant on Diablo sometimes, and I used to see him riding his daughter to school on the trail in the morning.

And if you come to Walnut Creek, I've got a mountain to show you... and a loaner bike if you can ride a 55.

Well done sir! Well done indeed.

Let's see how well this bike handles a lap around Mt. Diablo when ridden by our tame frame designer.

I was a good hill climber until this year. I moved back into NYC and have lost my climbing ability. But I'll try. And 55 is my size.

We don't think he's a god. We're just playing the game here since anyone can do the Chuck Norris dozens.

Did Grant Petersen ever ride a Pedersen?

Speaking of Mt Diablo, I broke my Pedersen's chain on that final steep pitch to the summit as I tried to get in under one hour. I then ran to the finish almost as fast as I could ride it.

I've only ridden past Rivendell on the weekend when the place was closed, but did meet Grant briefly at Interbike, up front amongst Phil, Stein, Kool-Stop and a select few others among our favorite distinguished suppliers.

Coincidentally, I saw Grant this morning. He's looking a little sad, in need of some love. Maybe the BFC&V needs to get together and send him a postcard, ...seriously. I think Riv is a lonely outpost.

Did you do the Challenge in 2014? Maybe I have you on video... I was a volunteer at the Summit.
I've also seen a Pederson on the Canal Trail a few times... you?
That last pitch is called the "Summit Wall"... definitely want a strong chain for climbing that.
I did see Grant on Diablo once with that unusual bike that had two freewheels - he flipped his rear wheel for the ride down... oh yeah... the Quickbeam.
