4/16 - 24.5mi, 2523ft. Thursday Night Hill Repeats and blackfly eating contest. First ride of the year where I felt a bit overheated but it was only 75 on the pavement or so. First climb @5min23sec was 15 seconds off PR but 41 seconds faster than the last session two weeks ago.

244.6/500 miles, 12631'

About 1.5 miles/day off pace for 500, but I should make it. MN Ironman Bike Ride will get 115-ish of the remaining 255.4 miles if the weather cooperates. Won't make 30k feet of climbing goal, I'll be 5k short, I think. Thanks week of snow and ugly weather. Can't push any harder to make up the difference because I'm on the edge of overtraining because I am started out harder than I should have. Reality and ambition are not matching up, heh.

Got up at 4:30 AM in hopes to beat the rain. Saw it wasn't and by the time I got dressed and got the bike ready, it was raining. Decided to put in a little trainer time since it is better than nothing and with the weather clearing later, I might go out for a ride then. Did 17.1 T miles.

Goal: 350 miles (including trainer = T)

4/18 - 70.9mi, 2779ft. Last long ride getting ready for next Sunday's MN Ironman Bike Ride.

315.5/500 miles, 15410'

Last year for the Ironman Ride it was 42F when I started and 37F when I got back to my car. Winds were from the east averaging 21mph for the entire day, with big gusts, and there was a ton of rain and sleet. Current forecast 56F, sunny, winds 1-2mph gusts to 12. Sounds perfect.

I rode my 25 mile route (it is actually a bit less than 25) both yesterday and today. Which put my total (so far) for April at 104 miles.

So I feel completely successful in a way. But my average for April is 122 miles and to help guarantee that I reach my annual goal my stats show I need to get between my average and my highest April mileage... which is 200 miles. It mostly depends on weather now. I am having a test done this week which will keep me off the bike a couple days. But with about a dozen days of month left... I like my odds.

Goal mileage hit for pre-vacation. Only have about 40 miles to go if we rent bikes while on vacation. That may be not so much fun because most shops where we are going do only cruisers and I'm not a huge fan of them. The one shop that rents hybrids/road bikes is not sure that they can accommodate me. I'll have to see if they let me rent a bike and just buy a slightly wider tire and offer to pay for spokes/true the wheel if there are any issues.

What? You'd think that type of maintenance would just be part of the rental fee....

No but I called and they said they could not rent me any bikes, even cruisers or comfort bikes. I'd be fine with repairs if there were issues. The problem is if they are using really light weight parts (say 24 or 28h wheels) and don't have any sturdier parts to swap out then I'd be too nervous about damaging a wheel and being out hundreds of dollars. Seems strange that in a touristy area in the US they don't have a single high capacity comfort or cruiser bike let alone a spare heavy duty wheel or two. Even the shops around here keep some 32 or 36 spoke wheels for demos. Seems they are missing out on money but not being able to at least rent out comfort/cruiser bikes to 300 lb tourists. Or offering to put on a heavy duty wheel for an extra price. Obviously customers are responsible for damage. But I don't know that shop. I don't know enough about a wheel being out of true. They could easily tell me that they had to replace the wheel and charge me hundreds of dollars and I could not tell if I was being taken advantage of.

There's a Trek shop nearby. I was hoping they may have a Shift 4 but they only demo/rent carbon road bikes. May be out of luck for a couple weeks.

I'm going for a minimum of 200mi this month

4-2: 11.34mi
4-4: 16.72mi - Group ride went waaaay slower than expected...
4-8: 13.11mi
4-11: 21.28mi - Started on the longer group ride, but had to cut it short due to time.
4-12: 17.71mi
4-16: 13.8mi
4-18: 21.7mi - Cut the group ride short again... then made a wrong turn.

MTD: 115.66mi/200+

Can I find the time to do 85mi in 12 days? If I don't then I've failed myself.

I'm confident that taking off so fast this early in the season has something to do with it, I guess I just need to either dial it back a bit or start looking for new routes...

Well, missed a couple of days due to a nasty stomach bug, so the #30daysofbiking has gone by the way side, but still, I shouldn't have any problems reaching my goal. Having said that....

April 01 = 7.81 miles.
April 02 = 9.61 miles.
April 03 = 10.90 miles.
April 04 = 6.67 miles.
April 05 = 13.27 miles.

April 09 = 13.48 miles.
April 10 = 10.72 miles.
April 11 = 10.84 miles.
April 12 = 3.74 miles. (Yeah, I kind of mailed it in today. Too tired to go too far)
April 13 = 3.42 miles. (Yep, all these days in a row has taken its toll. Fat boy is still out of shape)
April 14 = 9.16 miles.
April 15 = 14.30 miles.
April 16 = 3.94 miles.
April 17 = sick
April 18 = sick
