May 2015 100 mile plus goal thread

Winter is over! Time to get out there and get back into riding shape if you have not done so already. How are you going to accomplish your goal of riding more than 100 miles this month? What is that goal distance? Do you have any other goals you would like the group to hold you accountable to? Post them here. This forum and this thread is all about helping each other to enjoy the sport of cycling. Join in.

I've my American Diabetes Association Tour de Cure in Spokane ,WA on May 16th. I'll be doing a century that day, depending on the final ride course distance (+/- 5 miles....) Once again I am one of the top fundraisers but I am still far short of my goal! Shameless plug... I am sure I will get the honor of leading out the century riders. Beyond that I am training for another one day STP in July so my miles had better be over 700 again with plenty of climbing and a second imperial century before May is over.

My challenge to all you is to one day a week ride an extra 15 minutes at whatever your normal pace is.

I shall set my goal at 150...only because I have never set a mileage goal before.

I am in.

My goal will be 400 miles since I know I have nearly something going on each weekend this month and will find it hard to get my bigger weekend rides in. Today I got up early and ran out at about 4:50 AM. Again did the Bethpage route and when I got along the golf course it was a little earlier than usual and the gates were closed!! Gratefully, this was already 7+ miles into it so I turned around and did several miles in the neighborhood to lengthen my ride to 18.4 miles. Was a good morning and a good ride to start the month.

While riding in the neighborhood, I saw a lady walking a BIG, BIG dog. The road is rather straight for about 1.25 miles. I had a helmet light and handlebar light on flashing at this time since the sun was up and a pair of red taillights pointing out the back. As I got within earshot, she says to me that she could seem me 3 miles away. I wanted to tell her that I could see her dog 3 miles away!!!! It wasn't a big red dog but it was pretty big!!

Goal: 400 miles

5/1
18.4

Total: 18.4 miles

May is the start of charity bike ride season, so I'm starting off with a itty-bitty 28 miler on Sunday, and the rounding off the month with a 68-75 miler with at least 2 big climbs (course isn't finalized yet). Hopefully I can easily beat the 260 miles of road biking I did in April.

My goal is to have logged 425 miles by May 9th. I say that because I'm setting out on my first bike tour tomorrow and that's the minimum distance I have to ride to be able to get home

Not sure how many miles for the rest of the month

Ambitious month for me, going to try for 750 miles, about 111 miles more than my previous big month, July of last year. Two of my regular group rides start up next week and there's still a week of the spring Thursday training. That plus the Leinie's ride and Fulton Grand Fondo leaves me just needing 300 miles. This might be a bit of a challenge.

Today's a rest day, 3% of the month already wasted.

Well, since I've just started biking again, and my first ride on 4/11 was only 1.2 mi. I did do 4.7 miles yesterday, so I'll set my goal for: 100. I've biked M-Th, so today is going to be my rest day, but I'll put in some miles on Sat and Sun. My wife wants to start riding her cruiser again (Schwinn Voyageur), so I'll do a short ride at very low intensity with her. Then go out, and do a ride of my own.

Right now, I've just been doing laps around my apartment complex, which is ~.6 mi (just a little under). Yesterday, I did 8 laps. I think I'm ready to start heading out into the wider neighborhood.

Good job! Everyone that rides started somewhere. My first ride as an adult was about 1.2 miles, to the end of my road and back with about 15 feet of elevation climb. It was hard then.......

May is National Bike Month

Setting a goal for 400 miles this month. Shooting for 25 mile loops M,W,F and a longer ride on Sundays. Coaching my daughter's baseball team on Tuesdays & Saturdays, plus a camping trip planned for the end of the month may derail these plans.

By riding more than 100 miles this month. Going to start tomorrow by doing a camping overnighter to a state park. Think the route is about 90 miles round trip.

I'm in for 250 miles. Hoping work stays out the way, and I don't get sent anywhere that cuts into my riding time!

5/1 - 14.0

I am in on this one, dog gone it. 24.6 miles tonight on the trainer trying out the route for the 25 mile Tour de Cure in Spokane, WA on 16 May. I asked for and received the GPS data.

Just completed the Tour de Cure 25 mile route that will be in Spokane, WA on 16 May. I asked for and was sent the GPS file to enter into my trainer program.

Just under 1:30 total time. No time out of the saddle, but did rest for a minute here and there to lower heart rate and wipe brow and get water.

https://www.strava.com/activities/296323408 Bkool - Session summary

This afternoon I bought and had the bike shop install and Ultegra chain for the 10 speed cassette, and it is way smoother than the 105 chain I just broke

5-1 : 21.4 miles (ride to work, ride to lunch, ride home)

Looking to bust 300 miles but I'll aim higher and see what happens.

An absolutely beautiful day in the Midwest today. OK... slightly chilly early on but very nice with a light jacket. I rode 25 miles.

Nice morning in NC. Finally ventured out of my apartment complex, and I found a route that is 5.5 mi. I averaged 12.6 mph with a max of 25.5.

5-2: 5.5 mi
