Officially joined the ranks of bicycle commuters today! Had a bungie cord snap as I was pulling into the parking lot in the morning and nearly dropped my lunchbox, which is I guess what I deserve from buying cheap bungies from Walmart a couple years back. Then, got caught in the rain for the last 4 miles on the way back, which was actually incredibly refreshing. Unfortunately, heavy rain/thunderstorms are in the forecast for the next two days, so I'll be driving, but Thursday and Friday should be great!

5/1 - 11.68 evening ride, needed the lights at the end of this one
5/2 - 18.18
5/3 - 15.37 practice run for commute, got there then another 4mi to meet the wife for breakfast
5/4 - 23.46 commute (total)
MTD total 68.69/250+

I'm in this month! My goal and this is my first time doing this, will be 100 miles.

Friday 5-1-15 I did 4 miles.
Sunday 5-3-15 I did 27 miles on the C & O canal! That felt so good!

Au contraire, mon anie. Your body needs occasional rest to continue with your goal-building progress. Here in the Arabian Gulf it is just too hot to ride during my work week, so I have switched to walking. About 21K steps a day or 10 miles (18.7 km). So that translates to 50 miles a week and ... Week ends are rest days. I will try 10/20 km trips on the bike early Friday mornings as the traffic is light and it will still be mid-30sC.

This goal of mine is relatively easy to do - 30 minutes to an hour at a time whenever I can. BUT, the minimum of 21K steps IS reached. Motivator is a pedometer - and weight loss. With luck (and portion control) this will translate to between 1 and 2 lbs of weight loss weekly.

With little bicycling now my next challenge will be the 1st week of my 6 week unsupported tour in Australia this July-August. Oh well, here's hoping the weight loss will help. Now at 105 kg (231 lbs) so the current target is below 215 lbs (98kg). Then more loss on the tour perhaps

Wife had to drop the car off so this mornings ride was pushed earlier to 4:30 AM and had to be cut a little shorter. Still managed to get in 13.1 miles.

5/2 52.22mi. 2405ft. Couldn't have been a nicer ride. A couple nice hills on this route.
5/3 31.70mi. 1148ft. Only 78F, but the sun was bright and I saw mid-90s on the pavement.
5/5 12.53mi. 433ft. Lunch ride.
5/5 29.57mi. 1240ft. Shop rides starting up for the year! Route slightly shortened due to construction and impending rain.

MTD 126.02mi. 5226ft.

Signed up for 45 mile group ride on Saturday. Wish me luck. My current long ride is 28.27. Normally I'd only attempt to add 5-10% but it is a cool route and the ride leader said they'll set a casual pace (12-14mph average). And the last time I struggled with a ride he was there to encourage and help me up the hill and encouraged me to sign up. I'm still riding a hybrid and am using 23mm tires from borrowed wheels. So I'm expecting "a bit" of soreness Saturday night. But it should help me catch up after missing a few days!

Had to be at work at 2:30 AM today so I didn't want to miss my morning ride so I rode into work. It turned out to be a mere 4.8 mile ride but it was still something. Still have more riding to go since I should be out by noon. Hope for a longer ride then and at least the ride home to drop off the junk I changed into when I got to work.

SO for now:
