4am? Holy crap that's a anti-social group ride. I've signed up for a Century next month, and I don't expect to set my alarm for that until about 6:30am!

I get up at 340 every weekday morning. Set two activity tracker alarms and a nightstand alarm, have not needed the nightstand alarm yet. Monday-Wed I go for a 30 minute walk, have to clock in by 545. Thursday I have to clock in by 5, Friday I decided to cook a halfway real breakfast.....must clock in by 545. Have not worked many Saturday's but the day shift guys LOVE working 4am to noon. Cultural thing that is.....being ecstatic about working 4am to noon :-).

There's nothing more satisfying than reaching new highs in terms of distance, pace, or cumulative miles over a period of time. Pushing into new territory is how you grow in any activity. Congrats on your accomplishment...now you have a new high to build on.

Sweet feeling, isn't it. Awesome!

You'll be able to increase your distance faster than you think. Just leave time for it. I was amazed how quickly I was able to increase my range when I kept at it. And I know you will too.

Also - go for a water bottle holder and a water bottle that is easy to drink from. If possible, don't go with something you need to stop and unscrew. Even on shorter rides. It'll get you used to having water and get you used to drinking water.

The Camelback Podium bottles rock :-). If you have to eat ramen noodles for a week straight to afford two of them, go for it :-).

I closed the week with 40.7 miles. Definitely the most ever! We will see when I can top that. This coming week will be hard. Traveling for a few days.

I carry 2 bottles even for 10 miles... My max ride was last year 28 miles, this year, new bike, better fit, I will try a 50 mile ride by the end of the year, I just bought a Thule strap on aluminum rack so I can carry fluids and snacks with no issues ...

Heck yeah - those are the best bottles I've found! They stay closed until you suck or squeeze. And skip the insulation. They hold more without the insulation. At least, I don't need ice cold water when I'm biking. Might be different for others.

Yup. And learn how to drink while riding. That will really set you free. (and is an important skill to master if you plan to do group rides.)

+1 for the Camelbak Podium bottles, I carry a pair of the 21oz insulated Chill bottles with me all the time when I'm on the bike, and I've got two 21oz non-insulated for taking my son out on his trailer

The insulated were all I could find at retail :-)...they MIGHT be very nice come winter time, about 75 minutes in my non insulated water bottles will freeze, might be that lukewarm water in an insulated bottle might be a great core heat helper when it is 16F next winter :-).

I upped the bar yesterday. Did 16.1 miles. It is amazing how far you can end up with transportation miles. 5 for lunch and the pharmacy. Then the rest were to go to and from a meeting a few neighborhoods away!

This week should hit 40 miles as I have a 10 mile tour this weekend.
