Forgot to charge my headlight, so no commute for me this morning. Did manage a nice ride with the wife this evening, though

6/2 - 13.65
6/3 - 23.16 (commute)
6/4 - 16.64

MTD 53.45/400

It was getting late so short ride tonight, ended up with 15 miles at a 16 mph average. Working late tomorrow night so likely no ride, but hoping to squeeze in an early morning 25-30 miler Saturday before my daughter's little league game, then a 50 on Sunday. Going to be swamped at work on Monday so it'll probably be a rest day, coaching my daughter's little league team on Tuesday so another day off the bike, the rest of the week looks wide open for my usual 1-2 hour (25-30 mile loops) evening rides.

6/3: 20 miles
6/4: 15 miles

MTD: 35 (9%) / 400 miles (I have to average 23 miles a day to meet my stretch goal, possible? Magic 8-ball says "Certainly" and you know that thing never lies)

A little behind again because of weather. :/

6/2 31.2mi 1282ft. - Tuesday group.
6/4 14.6mi 1936ft. - Thursday Hill Repeats. 5x new hill (250' in 0.4 miles) 170'/mi.+ for the first 10 miles.

MTD 45.8/750mi, 3218/30000ft

New hill repeat route is a doozy. Shorter overall ride, tougher climb.

06/02: 4.2 mi (w/ Wife)
06/03: 10.1 mi
06/04: 5,5 mi (w/ Wife)
--------------------
MTD: 29.9 mi

Had my first fall on my bike. Was looking back to see where my wife was, and I scraped a curb, which was enough to have me fall over. Luckily I wasn't going too fast at the time. Got a nice strawberry on my knee. Also, the left brifter got a little out of position and the rear derailleur has a minor scrape on it. I checked all my rear gears, and the shifting was fine. Even the crank shifting was fine. When I got home, I had to take the tape off the left side of the handlebars to get the brifter back in alignment.

This morning, right as I was going out to my bike to ride, it started raining, so I didn't get that ride in.

My friend cycles with me, is 2 inches taller, and has more body fat than me, but weighs less than me. My shorter broader body type gets me down sometimes but I'm trying my best to not get discouraged at it, but I'm putting in more hours and being fast.

My goal is 100mi a month which is a slight improvement from averaging between 50~90miles per week. More importantly my seat time since April has gone from 3~4 hours a week to 6+ hours a week with the resurgence of good weather. My weight loss seems to be plateauing, because I'm overeating post exercise and I need to watch my caloric intake. Also been fighting injury from car accidents, bike accidents, and running accidents. It's really not my month.

I'm trying to do my first 100mi ride this month but I seem to have a hard time getting past the 90mi barrier.

If you're not already trying this, a supported 100mi. ride will be a bit easier (psychologically because of the support/rest stops, etc., and physically because of that lower stress level), so it's a good way to make learning what you need to know easier. It's a matter of listening to your body and adjusting your plans based on your legs that day. With an organized, supported ride you just have less to think about, and if something really goes wrong you can just get a ride back to the start, no shame in that.

General, common sense tips: don't burn extra fitness early because your legs feel good then. For the first 30-35 miles dial it back a bit, then for the second third go with your natural pace, whatever it is that day. Eat and drink regularly. Just a little dehydration can make things a lot more difficult. That's a problem I had for a while - I hit a wall at around 105 miles because I wasn't drinking enough. Food is a bit easier because you generally know what the human body can digest and you match that as close as you can calorie for calorie. Water is tougher to gauge.

The jump from 40 to 100 miles is learning how to manage that kind of thing, even higher mileage is refining this and knowing just how hard you can go for hours and hours and hours. We evolved for endurance, we just aren't in a situation where we learn it by living it, so it's just not automatic. Once you get through one they become easier.

Earlier on Sunday I had a goal of completing my fastest century (and first) since I was at my parent's house in Ohio and it's pancake flat there. I mashed the pedals so hard I set a KOM on my local stretch of twisties in the first 10 miles and set a record for my fastest 40k to date. I averaged 18mph for 80 miles with stops and traffic included, but a woman's chihuahua ran into the middle of my path while she was admiring flowers and I took a fall breaking my derailleur hanger and cutting me short 20 miles of 100. I'm still upset... I feel like my fitness is there but the weekends where I have enough time seems to have doubtful weather or accidents...

Sunday following this one I have a slow century planned with a friend and we'll be pacing it much much slower. I wouldn't put him through the torture of a fast 5 hour ride. It'll be nice to nail that 160km off my bucket list.

Decided if I'm going to be doing this I needed a more accurate way to keep track of mileage, so I went to the LBS and got a computer (Trip 300). Not only did I add extra miles riding to/from LBS, but discovered a few of my earlier estimates were a little low. Updated and corrected mileage follows.
Newby with 1st bike in 25yrs. Will try for 100.
6/3 2.3 (Rode new bike home from bike shop)
6/4 4.0
6/5 7.9 + 2.3 + 2.3 = 12.5...My first "double-digit" mileage day.
MTD 18.8 Only 81.2 still to go! Thanks for the motivational spark!

06/03 : 19.2 - Mountain Bike
06/04 : 20.6 - Mountain Bike
06/06 : 25.2 - Mountain Bike

MTD - 65 Miles

Here's a nice little side note. I stopped riding for 10 years. January was my first time back on a bike besides one ride here or there and my average speed has exploded on top of increasing my mileage each month as well. All of this pretty much in on a mountain bike with slicks. Went from about 235lbs to 220lbs as well.
