I hate seeing pictures of me from the side.

The club I've been riding with is threatening to do a modified century route to make it a better metric than the official metric. I'm really tempted. It's not smart, but it's tempting. I need to be home by 3pm.

I've ridden the Rincon for the last time. This past Friday, I went up to Ventura to have HyperCat do a fit for my TT bike and afterward, made a quick run up to Carpenteria. Yes, the new bike path is pretty awesome, but most of the rest of the route is just as bad as riding on cobblestones in a Paris-Roubaix race. The surface is awful, and getting worse year-by-year. They've repaved some of it, but most of the route is still pretty rough. It is so rough that I lost my Dinotte strobe taillight. I heard "something", and a quick glance down showed nothing amiss. I then thought that I had just ran over something in the road.

Nope! Only after getting back to Ventura and loading up the bike did I notice that my light fell off. No way I would be able to find it. With the afternoon breeze behind me, I was trucking along at 20-21 mph, so even if I did find it, it was probably pretty beat up. Besides, I really didn't make note of when I "ran over something". Oh well, there goes a couple hundred bucks. It was a very beautiful ride, as always. Just watch out for the surfers on the way up and non-attentive cell phone talkers along the Rincon on the way back.

Also not a fan of Rincon! Fortunately, the hilly century only rides that road once and that's on the return leg. That sucks about your Dinotte - I just got a QuadRed. It *seems* sturdy but it is noticeably heavier than my old cygolite hotshot. I will cry little alligator tears if I lose it, that puppy was pricey.

The "get off your bike and walk it" signage at muscle shoals is ludicrous. The ride organizers warned that CHP may be out in force to get all ticky tacky with riders.

Kill two birds with one stone and ride your horse on the century. I'd appreciate a tow up some of those hills too.

I'm not sure what we're going to do with out your eagle-eyed ability to spot the police. Get a ticket, most likely.

I had the 300R and just loved that thing. The bolt worked itself loose and fell out. Not the band bolt, the one that attached the foot to the band. They don't sell the 300R anymore, but they do seem to take trade-ins of old Dinotte lights for a new one. I wrote them Friday when I got home and asked if they will reburb an old 300R trade-in and sell it to me. Haven't heard back yet.

How do you like the QuadRed? It is supposed to be a little bit brighter and smaller. I also asked about the flash capability because the 300R has a mode where it flashes a few times dimly, then once bright. I really like that mode because it is 'attention getting'.

Bummer about Muscle Shoals. That's one of those 'intersections' where you look for cars and if it is clear, you just proceed. Whoever said to 'walk your bike' never rode with cleats. No way I'm walking in cleats.

Say, I have an idea for you about how you can avoid the Rincon on the return leg. After you enjoy your popsicle, just head back up 150 over Casitas Pass and come back down the Ojai bike trail. Problem solved!

I like the quadred - the battery life seems longer than what they advertised for the 300R, so that's a plus. There are basically 6 modes - 3 levels of steady brighness and then 3 levels of brighness with periodic flashes. The one that flashes most frequently is eye-searing. I got one after I realized that the cygolite is great... if you're in the right spot behind it, but I've been on rides where I don't even notice a flashing cygolite. Since I ride a lot at sunset or at dark, I figured I needed a change.

Great idea on avoiding Rincon on the way back! Just peachy!

I don't think I'm going to make it legs are thrashed from trying to run a hill the other day. Currently trying to spin them out so not as stiff and hurting. Hope today is a better spin session.

Nope. I'm out for this year. On the one hand, I'm really bummed. It's a great ride, good peeps and sorta like a tradition. On the other hand, it's going to be HOT! I hate HOT. Have fun and ride safe!

There goes the legend! You shoulda just said "no way I'm driving 170 miles to ride 100" so we could all keep dreaming the dream.

Mmm hmm. It's the COOL breeze ride, not the I-live-in-an-oven ride. Supposed to top out at a nice and relaxing 87 on Saturday. Much better than Whittier, (97) and WAY better than Santa Clarita (103. ONE OH THREE!)

I was really tempted to come do a modified metric with the club I've been riding with. I think they're going to cut out some of the climbing. Seems there's a bunch of people who have done the full century or the hilly before, but need to be home early for some reason. I have to say, if I were to do the ride, and not be home by 3pm at the latest, life would end as I know it. I just can't risk it.
