What time are you guys planning on rolling. I'd like to start with you. If you are doing the hilly century I think that means immediately I would go a different way route wise. I'm ok riding solo but would love to start with you guys. Maybe text me when you hit lunch and such. Last year my friend who did hilly century caught us at the lunch stop. I might be able to ride with you guys for a bit at some point

I'll be at the start at 6:30 along with a few lady friends. We are riding the regular century.

Ah, 6:30 gives me a few more minutes of blissful sleep. Now I can wake up when the time starts with a 4! I'll probably just do the regular century too, sadly. The hilly one is really pretty, and hilly too.

Ah, those last minute regrets the day before a century.

I was going to recable my shifters because they've been a bit stiff for a while now. Nope. Ran out of time. I was going to swap wheels but I think I need to go over the rear spokes because they worry me - no time. Then I was going to change out the cassettes at least to get a better range in there... might maybe have time for that, but I have to pack for camping first because riding with my current cassette is totally doable, camping with no tent is a harder pill to swallow. I was going to go to bed early last night and get a good sleep - nope, new puppy decided she didn't want to go to the bathroom before bedtime, so we were out there chasing her around the yard till almost midnight. Then I thought, well... I'll take a short nap after I take my daughter to her HS carpool, which gets me back home at 6:40 am... nope, new puppy and other dog were ALL WOUND UP having a good old time.

Sigh. hopefully i'll have time to at least clean and lube the chain or tunavic is going to be listening to a squeaky sound track all day tomorrow.

Pfff. According to @jsigone, you only really need one gear anyway!

But....these are brand new carbon wheels. What could possibly go wrong? (and could I please get video of it?)

Pff. You don't need your 11-32 for this ride. Even I can do in on a 28!

And this is just one more reason why I don't want to replace the lab we lost a while back. I know, my wife knows, and my kids know...I'm just a jerk.

Psst....don't forget to tighten the skewers!

However, at least you're doing the ride. Unlike me.

a) My knees are bad, I require gears.
b) yeah, they're 11 speed wheels which means there's almost no tension on the NDS, so I want to check it out before riding 100 miles on them. They held up great on the hot dog century last month but...
c) the 11-32 is what's installed and no, I'd rather have the 12-28 on there.
d) get a dog, you jerk, they're only idiots for a couple weeks.
e) I check the skewers before every ride now!

Weather.com is calling for 85 with a 11 mph westerly wind. Sounds like a pretty decent day for a ride!

Did the ride, got the patch, ate the food and as an EXTRA BONUS I made the group I was with stop at the Surf Dog hotdog stand. Good times, even though I was the only one eating one of those delicious dogs.

I did the ride and suffered most of day. Was glad I was riding solo as I would have felt bad holding everyone else up. Watched FlyBys on Strava and saw that after I saw @tunavic and @TrojanHorse they pretty much outdistanced me by a pit stop. Last sighting I had of them was them riding on route after lunch stop as I was headed to lunch stop on opposite side. When I hit Pit Stop 4 they were getting Popsicles. When I was at Bates with my Popsicle I got text that they had finished. I was struggling with heat, climbing and lack of prep leading up to ride. Was a loooooooong day. I got home at 8pm. I did stop at In N Out before heading home for a Cheeseburger, fries and Neapolitan shake and a coke.

I love flybys. That's a cool feature.

It looks like you skipped the surf dog hotdog stand, which is guaranteed to put pep back in your pedaling. I don't know if it was the dog or the coke, but both together were magic. I think @tunavic was also struggling a little yesterday. Something about a new job and not riding as much... or he was lagging behind so he could make goo goo eyes at Julie, not sure. We pretty much went 20-21 mph on the flats, and I was excited to check my avg speed when we got back. 15.8. Stupid hills and stupid traffic lights. Still, that's the best I've done on that ride in 4 tries so I feel good about it.

It looks like you actually started AFTER us! Tunavic and his gang started before me though - they left without me, the bums. I had to go pin my number on and stuff, I guess they got impatient. We dawdled big time at the first rest stop waiting for some friends of friends and that's when you passed us. We saw you on that first hill and I thought... hey, I wonder if that person wearing the aids jersey knows BG05. Good seeing you yesterday, I wish we'd have had time to catch up before the ride, but I got there late. Caltrans closed down the 5/134 interchange and I got diverted a bit out of the way.

Great ride and tons of fun with good peeps. I was riding with Julie and a bunch of her girlfriends but we quickly decided to do our own thing.

Yes I got tired of @TrojanHorse's tardiness and took off without him! No worries though he caught us within 100 yards of the start.

I skipped the Surf Dog hot dog as I couldn't see eating a hot dog only to pig out on BBQ chicken and pasta half hour later.

Its true I was making goo goo eyes at Julie (good excuse, actually I was struggling) while @TrojanHorse led the way for all of us riding with him.

I passed BeachGrad on a climb but everyone was ahead of me so no chance to say much other than a quick hi.

Can't wait for another group ride (translation: @PhotoJoe, get working on a Pizza Port ride).

For me the heat was miserable on the climbs inland. Once we got back closer to the coast it was better. Livable.

On a side note...Lately I have had riders come up behind me and tell me "good job dude", "your doing great man". Do I look like a man from behind? I am truly curious if I don't have the hips and shape that says "woman".

Interesting. Never thought about it but I don't think you look like a man from behind. I'm always reluctant to tell people "good job" too... who am I anyway? Certainly no better than anybody else out there on a bike.
@PhotoJoe - the heat was pretty heaty but for those of us who live in an oven (aka SC or Whittier) it was pretty much business as usual. Sissies who live along the coast were wilting, amirite BeachGrad05? TunaVic probably thought it was winter compared to Palm desert - I was watching the news Friday night and they said it was 105 in PD at 11 pm. That's just misery right there.

I heard the Palms were in the upper 120s over the weekend. I'm sure @tunavic thought he was riding his bike in the Air Conditioning

I read this thread to see if @TrojanHorse had a noisy rear derailleur again. Glad that wasn't the case...

It was a bit cold at the start but once under way I warmed up nicely.

The rest of the ride was picture perfect!

I was told it was about 120 here in the desert while I was away playing
