Hi, Perisphere! I recognize your story. I kept shaking my head over your comments and his "replies" and thinking "She's not wrong. She's got good advice!" And then I followed one of the links to this thread, and here we are.

I hope at least that all the Clydes and Athenas find their way to the sub forum for some support and epic tales of hills conquered, miles laid down. Then some good might come of it.

Maybe every family has a guy like Eric. Scary.

The difference in me pointing out what he is doing and what I do is.. I have never hinted to or asked a church to fund a money grabbing scheme I am getting ready to launch. I've never claimed to be a Christian,go to any church regularly,be a cyclist or that I am eating right and biking across Anerica like he has.

I don't see where he asked the church to give him $15k. However, your post alluded to the fact that FGs lifestyle wasn't conducive to attending church (sleeps late etc) - as if it was as natural to everyone as breathing. Just seemed a clumsy seq-way into pushing the "if you don't attend church, your'e a bad person" agenda.

Anyways, bless you. Your'e doing wonderful, christian, finger-pointing.

I had a friend who was over 500 lbs when he had weight loss surgery and I remember how he could barely sit on anything but a large and very substantial sofa. Very short walks would leave him winded. He was about Mr. Hites' age at the time.

As many have pointed out, there are NO photos of Eric actually riding. I doubt he ever has.
While I wasn't his weight when I started, I did start riding at 365 pounds, and actually other than pushing myself too hard at first, didn't have any problems building up to reasonable distances. With that said, I am over 100 pounds below my peak weight (I weighed 430+ at my peak) and when I carried a couple of 40 pound containers recently, I couldn't imagine walking around weighing even that much on a regular basis, and that was over 20 pounds less than my peak combined... I was actually coaching and umpiring little league at 430+ pounds. I could actually run the bases as fast as the majority of the 10-12 year old kids on my team, faster than some, and slower than others. I couldn't run much further, but when a person is relatively active, it is amazing what an extremely large person can do. I know I couldn't run the bases of a little league field carrying those 2 containers today.

Admittedly, it doesn't sound like Eric has been an active person, so you may well be right, but I suspect many bikes would work fine on a smooth surface... even if the manufacturers would have a heart attack to think someone is riding one of their bikes at that weight. With 26" wheels, and 36 spokes, I think they would survive even under Eric's weight. After all, especially hauling the trailer, he isn't moving very fast.

But, I would really like to see a picture of him riding, just to see if he is really doing it.

It looks like I somehow had created 2 groups.

I don't know when it will be effective, but I deleted one, and renames the other.

The one I am keeping is: CLYDESDALES AND ATHENAS (BIKEFORUMS.NET)

Actually, it is in MapMyRide. Although, I can't see the groups on my app, only on the web site.

I wonder if anyone has set up a Facebook group...

Read the whole post and make intelligent replies. I suggest looking for context. He's been playing the religious angle.

He said he was 560 lbs when he started this little venture but I base my opinion also on his body composition. I am having trouble imagining him being able to fit on a bike and reach the handlebars and steer. For awhile he was attempting to shame Zize bikes into giving him one of their $2500 models that is rated to support 550 lbs. I remember him posting as if they HAD given him one and he was claiming that they were being deluged with orders from around the country thanks to his endorsement and that he'd be doing a tour of bike shop "Meet n' Greets" kind of like he'd appointed himself their new spokesman. But then the photo of the GT from Newport Bicycles appeared and now he's been in town long enough that they are his "Newport Bike family." I'd have to guess Newport Bikes gave him a bike because they felt forced to and they're hoping when it collapses under his weight, he doesn't blame them. But I don't think the bike is in danger of being ridden.

He responded to my post! I'm not sure I believe all of his answers but I will take them at face value. If what he says is true maybe they'll be riding in the next day or two. I hope so. I want so much for this to be the inspiring story the drones have already decided it is.

If anyone really has evidence that FGAA raised donations with an intent to defraud or deceive, they should call the d.a. in newport at 401-841-8310. Let the experts that have investigative powers look at it if there is really such evidence. On the bright side, if someone did that, I bet it would get him moving.

I agree Strava is a great thing :-). I was in the Clydes group on Strava but I felt it prudent to drop out when I was under 200 lbs for good :-).

If anybody wants to follow on Strava send me a PM and I will tell you my name (it is my full real world name) on Strava, or facebook for that matter, but I do not post much biking stuff on facebook, maybe annual miles and stuff like that.

I have used several different aps, and now a Garmin but you can send all of that to Strava and use Strava as a sort of "master" ap to store all your stuff so you can look up month to date and such.

My ma was married to the same sort of guy as Eric for about ten years, I do not count him as a "stepfather" because I was about 30 when they got married. But he would lie and con people all the time, take peoples VCR's for "repair" and do nothing to them, or even sell them. Set up a booth at the County Fair saying he would video tape events and stuff like that, take money from teenage kids with garage bands for a video, then never give them anything. It was just a never ending siege of ripping people off.

Hi Ginny! Actually, from what his family says about Eric, I recognize a bit of my own brother. Always some new grandiose plan that's going to work out so great but when things don't go well there's a load of excuses! And you're the terrible person if you don't support him! I could go on. I see so many similarities. So yeah, that got to me.

But I've found this group and I'm really glad! I have been interested in getting back to cycling! Look up my post in the Introductions. I'm going to get out on that Lakefront Trail if I have to renew my Divvy Bike membership to do it!

OK - here's one:

You (Chites) and your wife (Rhites), are one and the same person. You're over-playing your hand - you're protesting too much.

Who goes on a bike forum and complains relentlessly about their relative to a bunch of strangers ?

I do. And that's because I was/am a heavy-guy and I disagree with using this forum to publicly jibe at another fat guy. If he's a scam artist (btw - I think he is), it will all come out in the wash, but it seems some people are having just a little too much fun with the lazy/fat/godless references.

I've been visiting these forums for years and found them very helpful and supportive. Who are you to question what I read on these forums? Your'e in 'my home' - please respect it (now go sign-in as Chites and respond).

Frankly, I think its good that the family is warning people. We were all full of hope but when they very convincingly explained the situation, we were disabused of our naivity. They have gone out on a limb for a good reason, which is to keep people from getting ripped off. They have provided proof enough, including their own pictures. We've alresdy been through this. And yes, I resent using religion for donations.
