8/1 - 45 miles. Club ride.
8/2 - 39 miles. Club breakfast ride.
8/3 - 19 miles. Club ride, ridden solo due to deteriorating strength.
8/4 - 17 miles. With hills. Club ride, ridden solo. 21st day in a row riding, finally had enough.
8/5 - First rest day in 3 freakin weeks. It hurt like hell.
8/6 - 50 miles. Rode 19 miles to get to an 18 mile club ride, then rode 13 miles back home. Rest day did me well.
8/7 - 23 miles. Club ride. With hills.
8/8 - 70 miles. Bike MS ride with 6 club members. They rode my ass off. 1600 feet of climbing was too much for 16mph, and yet somehow I managed. Even after the hills just 10 hours prior.
8/9 - 36 miles. Club breakfast ride. Nice and easy.
8/10 - 25 miles. Solo. Wanted to ride with the club but thunderstorms were rapidly rolling into the area. Rode solo on lunch break before the rain came. It was a good choice.
10 days in and I'm at 324 miles for the month. I do believe I can hit 800 miles again. Maybe even 900 if I try real hard. 1000 seems like it might be just out of reach unless I want to try to kill myself.

Weather kept me from riding yesterday, so I did 30 mins on the trainer while my son ate his dinner. Commuted today, and picked up my son in his trailer. Winds were unpleasant, but it was otherwise nice out

Had my first accident at speed today. Just went around a corner too fast (>20mph). My strava account of the ride goes from 21.5 to 1.3. Almost saved it, and then a road storm water grate got me. Pinch flatted my front tire. Caused me and my bike to slide. I've got a few abrasions, some bruises, a sore thumb, and a bruised pride. My bike had a flat front tire, and some scrapes on the pedals and the right brifter. I may have also bent my rear derailleur, as it won't go into the smallest rear cog. I'll take it to the bike shop after work to have them look at it. My brifters are now both pointing inwards, also. But that happened once before, when I had a <5mph run-in with a curb, and I was able to fix that myself.
Good News: There were no scratches on my helmet, so my head and helmet didn't hit the ground. My PB Ultra bib shorts look like they don't have a scratch on them, even though one of my strawberries was under them. My obnoxious green shirt has a few small holes in it on my right arm, but I'd like to think of them as a badge of honor.
On the bright side, I proved that I can change a bike tire by myself. As I didn't want to walk the bike the whole way home (> 2 miles). I was careful, as I didn't want to have my rear derailleur go into the spokes. I did walk up the next hill, as I really didn't want to cycle up that hill, since I was pretty sore. I did have a guy in a vehicle ask if I was Okay, as they saw the accident. And I had 2/3 cyclists slow down and ask if I was ok. Of course the 2 that did, rode by when I was 90% finished with changing my tire.
I'll be okay, but I'll probably take tomorrow off from the bike, and I'll decide on Friday, sometime tomorrow (or Friday morning). I'll most definitely be wanting to go on the Saturday Group ride.

8-12 10.4 first pre work ride. It's going to be impossible to ride regularly before work due to odd hours but I've got to get in the practice before the charity ride next month. Besides if I don't ride often enough the fiance and kids tell me I get cranky.

Decided to try a new road, Reservoir Rd in West Hills. This road takes you to the highest point on Long Island (only 401 ft) but more importantly, Walt Whitman had been there and I believe a poem of his was suppose to be on a plaque on a large rock up there. So I decided to go for it and possible catch the Perseid meteor shower. Even though I got out at about 4:27 am, I did not see a single meteor. ON the plus side, Reservoir Rd was fun to climb. At the top, I saw a gate for the town water tower that is up there and then another path at the end of the road. I decided to walk the bike on this path but never found the famed rock and path. It was disappointing but the ride up was cool. I decided to go back the same way I came and it was a new perspective on an old path so it too was fun to see these tried and true paths from a different perspective. In all, I added 14.8 miles and 1009 ft of climb. I look forward to a daylight ride back to Jayne's Hill to look for the rock.
Not sure if others have found this but riding before sunrise really makes hill climbing, especially new hills, more challenging. Not being able to see where you are on the hill requires greater, to me, mental fortitude. I had no idea how long the hill was and had to control my power output accordingly to reach the top of each.
Goal: Miles: 350; Climb 10,000 ft
8/2 46.6; 1353 ft AA ride
8/6 11.5; 443 ft
8/7 15; 963 ft
8/13 14.8; 1009 ft
Total: 87.9 miles; 3768 ft climbed
