August 2015 100+ Mile Goal Plus Reach Thread

Two more days left of August, I doubt I'll get any more rides in. That said I've got only 4 months remaining to ride the last 1400 miles to meet my goal of 3000 miles for the year. Pending this accomplishment, I'm eyeing a reward at my LBS for next year. If I fall short, I'll be suffering another year on the hybrid.

Well, my month is over due to work and weather. I had set my goal at 350 with a stretch of 400 and I blew it up ending with 549. Next month will be different and maybe a bit convoluted due to a BikeMS event where I have committed to 2 50 mile days (set that commitment up months ago when I wasn't getting the big miles I am now) a week out of town for work and a weekend off roading with Jeep buddies. I'll just set my goal for 350 again

Somehow I am going to make my monthly goal for the first time since May, unless the group leader tomorrow changes the route out of spite since he knows I need 25.9 miles and the normal late season route for the ride is 26.2... If he messes with me I'll be doing laps of the parking lot in the dark while everyone else is enjoying end of season tacos.
724.1/750mi 30,696/30,000ft
Month started really slow and really ramped up. To make up for evening rides getting shorter the weekend long rides have gotten longer. Almost half the miles this month have been from the last 4 Saturday rides.
Days are getting too short, don't want to think about my trainer yet. :/

Starting a new job on the 3rd of this month so I'm not going to set a goal this month. I do plan on riding to work but its only 1.3 miles from the house.
8-1 15.0 rode my old Peugeot P6
8-2 30.3 back on the Karate Monkey and my longest ride to date
8-8 20.8 finally got to ride on the weekend but only rode saturday due to 30th HS class reunion saturday night and I was in no condition sunday morning. Hoping to ride some before work this next week
8-12 10.4 first pre work ride. It's going to be impossible to ride regularly before work due to odd hours but I've got to get in the practice before the charity ride next month. Besides if I don't ride often enough the fiance and kids tell me I get cranky.
8-16 20.0

Finished up with 531 miles and 37 hours if I'm understanding garmin connect correctly :-). Not sure how I came up with the 33 hour number yesterday, did not use a calculator though, did today :-).

Well didn't make my goal of 75-80 miles today. The heat and humidity was just too much for my C.O.P.D. that it drained my energy. I was able to get 50 miles in before I really started getting weak. So I'm hoping that the meteorologists are wrong in their forecast for this week because I need to get some miles in this week. They are forecasting rain Tuesday thru Friday and I have a wedding for my Niece to attend Saturday. Dang!
213 - 50 = 163 MTG/Month
140 - 50 = 90 MTG/Week
213 - 50 = 163 MTG/Month
140 - 50 = 90 MTG/Week
76 - 163 = 87 MTG/Month

Well I am now paying for my 'Hail Mary'. My legs are shot. I could not move an inch after my ride yesterday. Sore is a polite way to put how I feel. I rode on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. On Saturday, there was no 'A' ride so one of the other guys I normally ride with suggested we ride with the less hilly 'AA' group. They definitely kick it up a notch in speed. It was also a little 'entertaining' with all the arguing over keeping the group together. My club's AA group tend to be a little aggressive and they are a large group. Someone had a chain drop and the group was spreading out and we did not stop as soon as we should have. Long story short, this turned into a heated debate. In the end, I rode 52.1 miles with 869 ft of climb. We were maintaining a run home at the end between 21-23 miles per hour, a rather quick pace. I limped home but loved the workout.
Sunday, feeling sore but not so much that I couldn't at least try decided to go for another ride. Several more 'A' riders did show up. We decided to do a pace line to queens and back. On this, we maintained our rides between 16-20 mph. My round trip was 46.9 miles and 844 ft of climb. Great bunch of guys. We also had a member of our merry bunch join us who had fractured her elbow a couple weeks ago. It was great having her back. This group is why many join bike clubs. We all get along like old friends or family and always look out for each other. Of course, this 'love' is offset with plenty of good natured ribbing .
Goal: Miles: 350; Climb 10,000 ft
8/2 46.6; 1353 ft AA ride
8/6 11.5; 443 ft
8/7 15; 963 ft
8/13 14.8; 1009 ft
8/14 12.1; 482 ft
8/15 42.2; 1008 ft
8/16 37.6; 715 ft
8/18 50.2; 1394 ft
8/24 17.6; 671 ft
8/29 52.1; 869 ft AA ride
8/30 46.9; 844 ft
Total:346.6 miles; 9751 ft climbed
missed it by THAT much. HAving only rode 11 times this month, it is a win to me to get this much done.

I ended up a little short this month. I bought a kayak and MTB bike, so those activities stole some miles:
MTD: 534
Climb: 14,227
YTD: 3426
Still hoping to crack 4,000 miles for the year and I think I'll hit it, just not sure if I'll get 5,000 in.

Well, I made 3 goals/milestones this weekend.
1. 300+ miles for the month (stretch goal)
2. 1000 miles on the bike and for me since I started riding back in April.
3. Metric Half Century while I'm still 50 (I turn 51 in about 2 weeks).
I had already accomplished my climbing goal (5280' - Stretch: 6000').
So August was a good month of riding with 22 rides. Today is going to be a rest day, as the Metric half Century really wiped me out. And September may not see as many opportunities with a vacation this week and labor day weekend and at least one other weekend that I won't get to bike.

707 miles for the month of August. Good month for me, did my 2 longest rides ever, 88 and 104 miles and blew away my stretch goal which was 600 miles.
