99 for Vuelta Corsa HD Road Wheelset?

Nashbar is running a sale today on these wheels and I'm wondering if I should bite on them. I weigh about 225-230 depending on the week and have been riding with sometimes 30 lbs on my rack.

When I bought my current bike last Sept the LBS who built it up for me talked me into a wheelset he already had on hand - Velocity A23 laced to White Industries T11. While he gave me a really great deal, I never did inquire how new or how used they were.

He told me that he'd triple cross lace each one. Well he only triple crossed the front wheel - the back wheel is double crossed on one side and radial on the other (which I assume is how the previous owner wanted it). I've really pummeled these wheels in pothole infested city riding and the the rear is just now starting to bulge out slightly in one spot - so I'm pretty happy with the investment.

Sorry to be so OCD but wondering if for 99 this is a wheelset I should purchase instead of blowing 50-60 on rebuilding my current rear. Plus I live in the city - so maybe having a backup is worth it just in case? How out of true do you wait before you take a wheel into the LBS?

I'm a bit of a newb to road bikes and the constant Nashbar sales too - wondering if they're too good to be true.

Out of true?

True it yourself, all you need is a spoke wrench of the right size and the ability to turn the bike upside down or mount it on a stand, you don't even have to take the wheel off to true it.

Buy them!

I have a set on my winter/early season/backup bike with 3000+ miles on them. They are bulletproof and just a true today as they were when I got them in 2012.

Any clyde that is having problems with a wheelset and is looking for inexpensive, quality wheelset should jump on this deal.

And that is the best price that I have seen them for.

Can you give us run down on this bike? There's a lot going on there. First is that a steel Specialized frame? What's in the front triangle? What's on top of the top tube? What's on the bars? Under the seat? What's on the far side drops? How small is that small ring on the triple?

And those wheels at $99 is a steal. I have a buddy that's 220+ lbs that rides 900+ miles a month and he swears by them.

Poking my nose in, it's an aluminum frame. Specialized used to make bikes with Columbus Alloy tubing.

edit: ok yes, not Thermacrom. Thought that was wrong. :)

Looks like an Allez to me, maybe a new tire in the front triangle, possibly a mini morph variant pump on the bottom of top tube.

$88 dang. If I didn't already have what seems like 6,000 sets of wheels in my garage, I'd get them! :)

Ah gotcha. I'm trying to learn up on all the cool steel bikes from a few years back that have gone out of vogue so that I can pounce on them if/when they come up on CL for dirt cheap :)
