Question about rear axel- Marin INverness
Im thinking about hooking my Inverness up to a trainer part of the time. It has a flip flop hub. Im getting conflicting information about no QR skewer vs. QR skewer.
1. Can I do it with no QR skewer or hollow axel?
2. In the pic, what is this 'clip' on the rear wheel bolt? It looks like its been cranked on pretty tight, but maybe it is supposed to look off kilter like that. Im the 2nd owner. 1st says it was set up/checked by a local shop about 6 mo ago, but he's overseas now and his RM is selling the bike. I talked to both parties in the same email so I know that much, at least, is on the level.
Thanks!

Don't see a pic.
If the axle is bolt on then it may work with a trainer depending on trainer.

Try clicking on the third icon from the left in the reply pane, choose either upload from url or computer, since Google Pic has issues copy the pic to your computer then choose from computer.

Yup that worked. That axle will work with a Kurt Kinnectic for sure. It should also work with any other cup-style trainers. The pic is not clear enough for me to tell what the clip is, sorry. Hopefully someone more familiar with these axles will chime in.

Yes, those it work with a KK trainer. Don't know about other types.
Are the clips you're talking about the axle tensioners?

Yup, it's an chain tensioner. The principle is that you can adjust the tension of the chain and the angle of the rear wheel independently of the axle bolt in the frame. In addition to making setup much easier, it also allows you to add tension as the chain ages. Critically (and why most of us use them), it protects the axle from sliding froward in the dropouts under pressure (not fun) and allows the wheel to be help in place without having to rely only on the clamping strength of the axle bolts.
On the question about the trainer...most trainers come with a special QR. But you can't use it because your axle spacing should be less on a fixed gear / SS. But their clamps are usually adjustable so you should be fine.
