Carbo-loading V

I want to go ride here.

Carry on.

dr_lha 09-01-15 08:23 AM

I do too, but only if I mount spinning blades on my wheels to cut down those joggers.

indyfabz 09-01-15 08:36 AM

Looks a lot like the part of the Schuykill River Trail through Valley Forge, only narrower.

I will be riding from New Hope, PA to Brooklyn on Sunday. "No! Sleep!. 'Til! Brooklyn!

I have to admit, I like rides with a destination. out and back is dull. Turning the route into a big loop is an improvement but I do like pushing on to GET somewhere.

Where is that unnaturally green picture from anyway? THis is where I seem to end up more often than not, gratuitous water included:

@dr_lha - Play nice. I'm one of 'those' guys but I never do that with somebody. Like drinking, I tend to go it alone. Home made Apple Pie :thumb:

No, that is the semi-famous and curiously named Santa Ana "river" trail. Based on the fact that there are more than 0 clouds in the sky, that must be rainy "season", which usually lasts all of about 3 days. The water is probably tidal influx from the ocean. My in-laws live about a half mile from that wooden bridge so when I ride down there, this is the way I go.

This will be at least my 16th edition of the ride. It's always a blast. We are only on-road in Manhattan for maybe 6 blocks. (The rest of the Manhattan miles are on the bike path along the Hudson River). About the same in Brooklyn. The ride ends in downtown Brooklyn, not far from the bridge and near Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. Both areas are incredibly nice now. We shower at nice hotel and then head out to dinner. The view of lower Manhattan from the promenade in B'Heights is one of greatest urban views in the country. Should be about 90 of us in total.

@TrojanHorse you missed a good ride and BBQ this weekend in PV. Sundays weather was perfect!

no pics but dang I'm glad for a new month.

dr_lha 09-01-15 02:11 PM

Last month was a sh**show for sure for me: A ****ed up job interview, my dad's funeral, 20,000 miles of flying around for those things, a total lack of any real time spent on my bike, and as a consequence of all the previously mentioned things, an almost 10lb weight gain. :(

Roll on September!

Recovery metric... :roflmao2:

OK, now I know why you're so much faster than the rest of us. They plant stop signs by the bushel around me, and on the off chance they missed a corner, they stick um in the middle of the street too. It's lunacy. And then some little old lady wagging her finger at me for blowing through ... wait, there's not even a stop sign there, why is she so mad?

OK, maybe not at full recovery parameters but it was at the very bottom of Z2 (72% HR and 58% Power) and after Saturdays 10mi time trial and a 10 mile run like a criminal it sure felt like recovery.

Preachin' to the choir! It's too damn crowded out here. California has what, 40 million people? Almost half of them are in LA county (well, 14 million).

I read an interesting document from the IRS yesterday that discussed net flow of taxpayers between states... with results that should shock NOBODY with a brain, NY, IL and CA had the largest outflow (then PA and NJ) and TX, FL, SC and CO had the largest inflow. What's also interesting is that California has a net population growth. Things that make you go "Hmmm" More people, fewer tax returns. What could go wrong?

Letting more people in to drink what we don't have isn't working either, although crop and landscape irrigation is probably the biggest usage. Ask yourself why California grows 80% of the country's lettuce? Practically in the desert too, if that isn't a wtf moment, what is? California grows a shocking amount of the produce in the US... stand by for food price increases (on top of the already there increases) as Governor Moonbeam tightens up on crop watering.

I notice the Pope's plan to combat man-caused climate change has no mention of reducing the impact of man by reducing the quantity of man. I chuckle when people jump all over part of his encyclical without acknowledging the other parts. You should ask him about it when he visits Philly.

I hear you. While I love the city dynamic for everyday living, it's getting harder and harder for me to get excited about road riding in the city and surrounding 'burbs. Part of that has to do with the fact that I have ridden is so many great areas during supported and self-contained tours. For example, I was in the Black Hills in June and SW Montana last year. When I lead club rides they always start relatively far outside the city, often in New Jersey if you can believe that.

My plan is to win the Powerball jackpot tonight, quit my job, buy a summer home in Montana and add a cross bike to my arsenal. I'll let you know how it works out.

jsigone 09-02-15 12:15 PM

tis the season for cross bikes n grass

I would, but we are leaving town. We live a few blocks from where he will be saying outdoor mass on Sunday. My house is in the so-called "traffic box." Between Thursday at 10 p.m. and sometime Monday morning if I drive out of the box I won't be allowed to drive back in. Right now I am looking at the church where he will be saying mass on Friday. It's one block from my office, which will be closed both Friday and Monday. Things could be such a mess that our regular cat sitter told us she won't work our 'hood that weekend because it will be too much of a pain to get around. And she rides a bike to get around mind you.

We will be heading up to the Delaware Water Gap area Thursday morning for three days of riding, including one day up to the site of the Woodstock festivals.
