The Hurricanes are a favorite tire of BF allstar Sixty-Fiver for being good at both road and trail; his reviews make me wish I hadn't spent so much money on Schwalbe Marathon Supremes for my commuter. If those ever wear out, I will be 'downgrading' to Hurricanes. Here are some posts of his where he describes them: one two three

The new bike was great, my first ride was this past Sunday. I am not so sure that my first ride should have been 43.8 miles but it was. I really like everything about the new bike
except for the new saddle.

Ha! Not unusual. You'll need to figure out whether it's the saddle that doesn't suit you, or if its position needs adjusting - tilt, fore-and aft, that stuff. Your riding position will be different on the road bike so what works may not be immediately obvious.

Yea I will be working on that this week, since with daylight savings I get another hour of daylight when I get home.

Aha, found it. KHS Flite

48 is a lot of miles, for a road exercise route in poway my favorite is up Sycamore Canyon to the tunnel then Scripps Poway Parkway to 67 and back. For an extra boost, go all the way to the top of Sycamore Canyon before (and/or after) Scripps Poway Parkway.

That or Poway Rd to the bike path/bridge parallel to 15, wind through Scripps (stop at Ballast Point), and home via Pomerado.

As far as my diet goes.......

1. Log everything I eat into my fitness pal
2. Breakfast - 2 bananas every morning approx. 7-8am
3. Snack - Grapefruit or Orange approx. 8-9am
4. Snack - Raw vegetables approx. 1lb mix of celery, tomatoes, radish's, cauliflower, sweet bell peppers) approx. 9-10am
5. Lunch - 1 can of Progresso soup, any flavor you want. (I usually tried to keep to the lower calorie flavors) approx. 11-Noon
6. Snack - Grapefruit or Orange approx. 12-1pm
7. Snack - Raw vegetables approx. 1lb mix of celery, tomatoes, radish's, cauliflower, sweet bell peppers) approx. 1-2pm
8. Dinner - Eat whatever is cooked for the family (Just being conscious about portion size)
9. Eat nothing after 7pm

I also drink water all day long

This is pretty much the diet that I have been on since September of last year. I eat this Monday through Friday and then on the weekends I just watch my calories and eat smaller portions. I do not have a cheat day figured in as I have set no restrictions on my diet for dinner.

This is what has worked for me and if anyone would like to try it they are more then welcome just remember that what works for one doesn't always work for others.

For real! I recently got my first bike as an adult to try and loose weight and eventually try to work my way into a mostly Car-Free lifestyle. On my first ride I thought I was dying and I just rode about 3 blocks. I kept riding everyday more and more and a week later, I took my first 4 mile ride ( I know that's not a lot to y'alls standards but, I don't exercise). I Hurt myself for going too hard, too fast. That knocked me out of commission for about 3 days and now I'm nervous about riding again. This was about two months ago. I've only ridden twice since and never for more than a mile. I'm gonna work back into it I'm getting a recumbent stationary bike to work on my endurance before I get back out on the road. That being said, I'm so happy that you are doing it! losing the weight and transitioning to a healthier lifestyle is not easy. You are an inspiration to me and everyone else! Thank you for your post!!!
