Fortunately, it was nice when we were in Boardman. Some wind to lunch in Ione, but not that bad. Of course, that was during the second week of September. At the time, that was actually one of the hardest first days of any Cycle Oregon. The climbing from Ione to Condon was quite tough. 81 miles total. 6100' of climbing. The climbing to Ione at the midway point was relatively gradual. Then we started the long, steep climbs with full bellies. I remember sitting outside at the VFW or American Legion in Condon and watching people finish the final slog to the school where we camped. There were some extremely tired faces. Then there were the packed SAG vans rolling into town full and then heading back out to pick up others. Several hundred people didn't finish day 1.

Logan Pass in Glacier National Park, June 16, 1999. We were the first bikes over the pass that year. The building in the last photo is the visitor center still partially buried in snow.

Okay, 32 degrees outside and fog (freezing to everything) so I did 15.5 miles on the Smart trainer (BKool) inside... no coasting on the trainer or the program comes up and says "do you want to end this session?" while stopping any forward momentum on the virtual course (one I loaded via the bike computer from an actual ride in this area). I earned my three slices of take and bake pizza.

I toted a medium format camera with a power winder, metered view finder and three lenses plus a 35mm with one lens some 6,000 miles. Shot close to 100 rolls of B&W film that I later developed myself.

The road surface was pretty much dry except for some areas where it was wet from melting snow. The day turned out to be relatively warm and humid. Only the summit, which is close to 7,000', was chilly.

Dont ever pass up the chance to ride Logan Pass. It's one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the U.S. I have climbed the west side three times and descended the east side once. From our tour in MT and Canada in '09:

Very nice. I have two 35mm with motor winders (Pentax ME Super), but made the switch to digital a few years ago.

He must be a purist.

Meanwhile, I totally wrecked my right ankle (again!) today doing something totally unrelated to cycling. It's killing me too, hurts like a son of a gun.

Ironically, we were at the range breaking in a new scope and were done... walking back from grabbing the targets and what not and WHAM, hit the deck.

Would you take me to the range too? I need a 100 meter zero on a few carbines and one rifle.

It happened to me once and I've behaved ever since. It was recent so I don't know how long it will be before I go back to my evil ways

Thanks, vic. I bought one from TrojanHorse the morning of the PP70II ride. My other two showed up the next morning. I have a spare on the shelf now. I appreciate you thinking of ways to spend my money, though!

Three mods over two posts. my matter of fact ways have caught up with me. Trying to give honest advice and also being funny and folks take it out of context.
