He's going with his BCI club up to Onyx on the 10th-- I'm gonna wheelsuck onto that one.

We have a local ride the next Saturday called the Plain Wrap Ride-- used to be out in Pomona and semi-sponsored by Coates Cyclery, but they went out of business. So it got moved out to Redlands, and one of the bigger local clubs (Ride Yourself Fit) took it over. It's cheap enough that even I'll pay for it-- $25. I went for the metric century length (pre-rode it this morning,) and the course is bonkers. If 20 people do it I'll be amazed. I imagine the 38-mile route will be mad crowded.

I don't think I'm ready for Onyx. I'm just happy to be riding outside!

I'm back from a bit of a hiatus which was drawn out by higher than average rains and stupid strong winds pretty much any time I had a chance to get out.

I did 20 miles today and after having lost a good 30 lbs since last season, my butt was like "hey, not so padded any more down here."

Yes, Onyx on 6/10, not a century but 55 miles/6400' up and back from Thurman Flats in Damnation Alley.

I haven't signed up for any other event-type rides, Breathless was the last one. Any suggestions? I enjoyed the Cool Breeze double metric last year but also like mixing it up year to year. Maybe we should pick a ride we can all do sometime. And there is always GMR.

June 9 taking my oldest son to Lebanon, OR (five hour drive from here) so that on 10 June we can be at the high school by 06:30 and check in for a 25 mile route of the "Strawberry Century".

This is in an area where I grew up so it will climb up 800 feet and then come back down; all on scenic roads by the Santiam River.

Oceanside is my new favorite destination although I've only gone once since August last year.

My urchin has a water polo tournament in San Diego starting July 30 and I'm really, really hoping the stars align so I can ride down and meet the rest of the family there.

Riding instead of working is so..... divine.

I like mine. Monitor your heel pad wear though so you can get the old ones off when they wear out. you can always carve a flat slot in the worn down screw and use a flat-head screwdriver to get it off if you wait too long, ask me how I know.

****!

I went for a run this morning (call it temporary insanity). I needed to kill less than half an hour while waiting for bread to bake, which I was taking into work for a friend who let me borrow his ladder for a long time. Less than 2mi, more than 20min. But surprisingly, it was 'not too bad'. No need to walk, could have kept up the pace a good while longer. First time I've run (other than playing ultimate) in probably 18mo. (And I haven't played ultimate for over a month)

Yes they have a few models that are "Mega" which is their wide shoe, and they aren't any more expensive than normal widths.

TrojanHorse, thank you I will keep an eye on the heel wear. My son wasn't paying attention to the wear on his cleats (SPD-SL) as he has walked many hills, and has a tendency to drag a foot, and we had to have my wife bring a spare set of cleats to us 12 miles out in our 33 mile ride.

Did a 4 day Motel stay tour. 16932' climbing, 332 miles. Awesome weather, awesome people, beautiful scenery. Tour was limited to 35 people due to motel capacity at some of the remote towns we stayed. It's already on my must do list for next year.

@IBOHUNT says that's "watch your dog run away for a week" flat.

How was it really?

OOO you a funny man! If I ever had to ride something that @IBOHUNT calls even lumpy I'd get a goldwing for me a Sherpa for the gear. Granted there was plenty of flats and false flats involved and even a bit of fast descending but damn that was hilly!

and for those that are late joining the party

Watch your dog run away for a week flat = <36'/mile
Flat = 36' - 50'/mile
Moundy = 51' - 75'/mile
Bumpy = 76'- 100'/mile
Hilly = 101' - 125'/mile
Climby = 126' - 150'/mile
Really! = >151'/mile

Got back on the bike last night. First real ride in 6 weeks. Busted ribs at my advanced age don't heal so quick.

Yup these descriptions are great for folks that ride an hour or two at a time. Out here in the open West we have hills and plains and broad sweeping valleys. For fun we ride around mountains, just sometimes over them.

Good to hear you are back on the bike. Seems I have lots of friends that have fallen and are just now getting back up.

two hours is enough to get a 40-20 done

Sadly, I didn't fall. Got t-boned by another bike that decided she wanted to turn left to get on another road. Trashed a nice set of ZIPP bars along with the ribs.

I'm embarking on a little project this month, sparked by the bike shop having my bike for nearly a week not too long ago.

I have an older steel Bianchi laying around with 9 speed ultegra that I installed in about 97 or so (it came with 7 speed RX-100 dt shifters). The right shifter is faulty, it has a standard crank and I think about 11-23 on the rear cassette, which makes it Really Unpleasant to ride around here. I was just going to swap out parts but by the time I get a new/used shifter, cassette, chain etc I might as well go full on new 105.

I just clicked "buy" on a new 11-speed 105 (5800) get up from Ribble so I'll swap out the parts in a week or two and have myself a spare / trainer bike. Most of my wheels are already 11-speed too, but I still need another set. I'm eyeballing some ultegra 6800 wheels for about 325 or so. I'm not keen on the spoke count though, what's the point of 16/20 on any wheels, ever, for anybody at any weight.
