Carbo Loading IX

okay, so I am going to go out and see how far I ride before coming back home as it is 23 degrees outside and I don't have long pants How many carbs does that earn me? can I has a donut on my ride with a hot cup of coffee?
okay 1.5 miles and at about the 0.5 mile point I quit being able to feel my fingers....https://www.strava.com/activities/460864648 oh and we are getting just a few very small snow flakes coming down
I guess cold weather riding will be done on the BKool Pro trainer until I get some fleece bib tights, full finger gloves, and outerwear for cycling.

In my estimation, if you ride far far enough and/or fast enough, you can eat whatever you want. I punctuated my first century with blue cheese and bacon covered chili fries. I did 115 miles on Dec. 30th, and fueled it with mini donuts, chocolate milk, and candy bars. Followed post-ride by 80% of a pepperoni pizza. My riding mantra is "beast mode to feast mode." Ride a lot, eat a lot. So eat all the donuts you want.
I'm going to go eat some leftover Xmas fudge.

While starting breakfast this morning our water quit running. We had an overnight low of -2°F and at the time I think it had warmed to +3°. We had just used the water and coffee was making. I had my wife take over the cooking so that I could put warm clothes on and go out and check the pump breakers. They were fine. Went back inside to have breakfast. After breakfast I put on my really cold weather layered clothing and went out to open the pump house. It has a press fit door, no hinges. A fully contained small outbuilding with well insulated 2x6 walls and roof over a concrete slab. This is the first time we have had issues in 12 years of owning the house. It has been colder for longer however a bit more than two years ago our pump leaked its smoke and had to be replaced and because of that the plumbing was changed a bit. I start testing for power and soon discover power is not getting through the pressure switch. Take the cover off and sure enough the contacts are open. When i manually close them, with an insulated tool of course the pump turns on. Although a pain in the a..... this is much better than my pump quitting. Make a call to my friendly local pump and well guy and he's busy as all get out but will sell me a switch for $20. I go fetch it. Set about replacing it and discover that the pipe leading to the switch was clogged with ice as was the switch. Now I'm taking a lunch break before going back out to finish the install of a 60 watt light bulb in the pump house to keep it above freezing in cold temps. The pump house currently only has one single 220 VAC feed so this is a bunch more complicated. I'm doing a temporary fix that I'll have to modify in the future when real electrical supply stores are open. Not how I wanted to spen my new years day!

Thanks for getting the year started out...on time. I was at the rose parade and fingers were too numb to work the phone.

Ah, back in town after an epic winter vacation in Mammoth. I've been severely limited in my ability to ski since I got hit by a car in 1997 and I managed THREE FULL DAYS this time, along with a day of cross country. I'm usually crying after 1 day, and I even hit some nasty mogul runs this time around. I think that perhaps all the cycling I've done has strengthened my knee joint but who cares - I had a blast. Most of it was spent hanging out with my kids on greens and easy blues but that was pretty fun too.
2016 cycling starts up tomorrow. I can hardly move my right arm, I must have slept on my shoulder funny, hopefully I won't care by tomorrow.

So, somewhere between Christmas and New Year's Eve, my 7 year old's Redline mini BMX was stolen (Bike thieves should be castrated!!). She was just learning how to ride, and she was extremely sad... So I pulled some Craigslist-fu and found her this, at an extraordinary price:
She absolutely loves it! It's much lighter than her Redline--I paid a bit more than the $30 her Redline cost a swap meet, but not much more
Now, to teach her...

About to hop on the trainer for some Zwift. I didn't see any takers today, so I'll be out in the wasteland with all the 3.5 w/kg riders.
