Warm weather - time for a GMR ride!

And in other news, my son is "taking a break" from soccer and shifting to water polo, so I think my weekends just got a lot more open.

Anybody up for a February GMR ride on a Saturday? I'm looking at you Mr and Mrs iTrek!

If anybody wants to figure out the route, we could do something further west, like Big T or little T or whatever they do over there in those hills. I'm flexible.

I think Feb is going to be tough for me. MAYBE the 20th, but that's not even a 50/50 at this point. I agree, though. I'd like to get back out there. It's been too long.

Love to join you all. GMR always holds a special attraction. But it will have to wait until another time.

I had a recent bike crash where I broke the distal phalanx of my right, pinky finger.

So m new C60 and I will have to wait for another time to do GMR.

I'm doing a brake job on a Camaro on Saturday, so not I. Most likely free the following few weekends, though. I feel like I should ride GMR at least once, just maybe so people will shaddap about it. I'm expecting unicorns or something at the top.

Nice route! I'd stay on Sierra Madre the whole way though, it's a good road. (mile 56 to 62)

Or you could just do this route: https://www.strava.com/activities/49773499 (keeping in mind it's easier to meet up with people at the base of GMR this way)

Who breaks their pinky in a crash? You're supposed to break your collar bone like all the other cool kids.

French fries, yes. Unicorns, no. Keep your eyes peeled for a ride up to Onyx out your way, that's another good one (supposedly. )

Excellent choice. How's the C60 working out for you? Anything noticeably different from the C59?

I can't ride for 4 - 6 week. The C60 arrived the same week I had the hand surgery.

The mechanic who put it together said that it rides like a dream. For now I will just have to take his word for it.

Let me check the calendar and with the wife. Feb is pretty busy, but might be able to squeeze it in. Otherwise March might be better.

meh I really don't like coming down the 39 later in the day when the drunk off roaders get bored playing in the mud.

I haven't climbed the 39 in a while. I remember campground/water is right around 16 miles at the base of lil GMR, than lungs are left in the valley after the 1st switchback. Up to the camp ground seems like a false flat sorta climb, can carry speed w/ those rollers. I'd love to venture to the end of the 39 to Crystal lake on of these days, but I might need some more fitness.

The Unlikely Cyclist has a ride set for Sunday Feb 28 at 10am (yes I know that's a late start...I'm not in charge)

https://www.facebook.com/events/1497317257242799/

that said...I could be interested in a C/A ride. Is plan to village or just shack?

Just curious as a guy stuck out here in flyover land, what is GMR? I checked out the map on Strava, and I'd say it looks neat. Keep in mind the biggest hills I find out here have about 250ft elevation change....

Yes time for GMR. Unfortunately I am booked the rest of the month, but definitely interested in March.
@DrIsotope - no unicorns, but if you get to the Mt. Baldy lodge in time they have fresh cinnamon rolls!

Glendora Mountain Road. It's basically a climb in 3 stages - the shack is about 9 miles and 3k feet of climbing (nice sustained climb at about 6% most of the way), the village is about 22 miles and 4100 feet total (mostly rollers from the shack and then another 3 mile 6% climb) and if you're brave and/or have a compact crank and a 32 tooth cog, the ski lifts are 27 miles and 6,300 feet total (5 miles and about half of it is 15%). The full round trip is 53 miles and 7,700 feet of climbing, so it's a good day's work.

I'm in for the GMR ride.

Anyone interested in Corona to Oceanside? I'll be riding it on Thursday.

I was the C59 that I was protecting. BTW, the C59 took a pretty hard hit and it came out A-OK. Grazie Ernesto!

Even further into the unforgiving badlands than you could imagine-- you can take a line all the way to the end of service in scenic San Bernardino, less than 20 minutes from where I sit as I type this.

Ahh, San Bernardino. Come because your car broke down on the way to somewhere else, stay because it got stolen while being repaired.
