GMR July 3rd, 2016?

During the last Pizza Port ride, @PhotoJoe mentioned doing GMR over the July 4 weekend on the assumption that the road will be closed to motor vehicles. But he's going to be out of town.

I'm thinking Sunday July 3rd might be good. I am looking to organize this as a BCI remote ride, since some of our members have been talking about doing it too, but it's not a closed group, ride on your own or sign in as a guest. No SAG since no cars on the road.

Maybe roll at 0730? If we are having a killer heat wave it may be best cancel. Thoughts? They do close it every year, right?

I'm assuming that I have the day off, in which case tentative IN.

My son appears to have JO qualifiers for water polo, which may put me back out. I'll know more later. That road is a lot of fun with no cars!

I am organizing the ride as a BCI remote ride as well, we have several members who haven't done it before or in a long time, so it seemed like a good opportunity, especially if the road is closed.

Bikeforums riders invited too!

Bumpity Bump.

Looks like Baldy Village has a forecast of mid-80s for a high, so it'll be toasty on the road.

I'm upgrading myself to DEFINITELY in. Kid's polo tournament got canceled, woo hoo!

I hope the road is open to riders. Still closed as of this morning.

FYI since I am running this as a BCI remote ride, for club purposes my go/no-go deadline is 10 pm Thurs evening. If still closed at that time the BCI ride will be canceled. If it opens afterward I might still go myself.

Anybody up for some, erm, pizza? If GMR is closed I mean.

We could always relocate to Onyx.

Holiday weekend at the beach, not sure riding along there would be a lot of fun. Onyx - maybe. Damnation Alley will be cooking. What would traffic be like along there on Sunday of a 3-day weekend?

Damnation Alley will definitely be extra hot but my guess is traffic would be reasonably light.

I'm also unsure what to do. Perhaps a beach ride is in order.

Beach ride has scenery and will not require me to change my wheels (although I did find the good brake pads last night... lol)

We probably need somebody to scope it out in person tomorrow to see, not close enough for me though. Maybe we'll get lucky.

How's the air and smoke out there? GMR/GRR is generally downwind of the burn areas.

@TGT1, @TrojanHorse, are you aware of any updates on the status of GMR? Last post on Glendora Mountain Road - GMR.BIKE is yesterday morning, still closed, but 39 did actually re-open last night.

Not me - I'm relying on TGT1 to scope it out for us, stealth style. It sounds promising though.

I've got clearance from the missus to ride on Sunday, so just make up your minds as to where it's gonna be. I ain't even care.

I've got club members tee'd up for GMR if it's open. I have to make a go/no-go decision by 2200 tonight so people can make plans. I've got my liberty card.
