19.5? On what planet? I think I averaged 16.4 for the entire day, which isn't bad considering we had some slow bike-path riding in the middle. Tailwinds were delightful yesterday, I can't imagine how unfun it would have been riding back up the coast!

OK, I see 16.4 now. Strava has this statistic that I really don't know what it means. I know from my own rides the actual average is down the page but I was tired last night!

I believe that's a standard deviation type thing - so it means we spent 25% of our riding time above 19.5 mph, which is pretty cool. It looks a lot different if you look at a ride with a ton of climbing!

Got it, makes sense. So yesterday's 75% quartile was 19.2 for me. Breathless Agony was 16.6.

That's not bad - I rode all the way up to Onyx with tunavic a month or two ago and I think the 75% speed was more like 13 mph. That was 42 miles of straight up and 42 miles of straight down though. Hm, 13 seems low.

Sounds good. I am a fan of the super-hoppy, but I do like most other styles too. For some reason not a fan of rye beers, or any lagers. But stouts, porters, hefes (esp with fruit), nut brown, etc etc etc.

I think the darkest I can go and keep my wife in favor of stinking up the house with beer smells is an oktoberfest style beer. She also likes very hoppy IPAs.

It's freaking HOT in L.A. I can't imagine the hell where @tunavic and @DrIsotope ride!

In other news, we upgraded PhotoJoanne's phone yesterday and BestBuy is running a deal that you can get $250 off an Apple Watch. I had to do it, but I'm not sure why yet. I can't wait to figure out why I couldn't live without it!

Oh, and in our infinite (cheap) wisdom, many years ago we signed up for some stoooooopid money savings program with Edison where they put a box on my AC compressor and can shut it off when they have to. In return, we get a break on our electric bill. We went for years without it ever affecting us. Uh...not today. It's almost as hot inside my house as outside. The good news is I have a pool that I'm going to go float in for a while, then I'm going to go sleep in the RV tonight....with that air conditioning running. TAKE THAT EDISON!!!!!

That's a pretty good deal... my wife likes hers (apple watch that is)

I'm sure you've noticed the Duarte and Fish fires up near Azusa - could be a rough year for riding up 39 and GMR if this is representative of the upcoming fire season. I can see the flames from Hacienda Heights so it's fair to say the fire will continue to grow.

122 isn't so bad, but I draw the line when it "feels like 124"!!!! So, I assume you cut the ride down to a metric century today?

Saw 111 here in Lake Forest today according with weather underground. Power is still on andRu AC is cranking, thankfully. Though it is cooling down quickly. It's only 80 here right now.

In the IE you can ride early. Out in the desert - Indio, etc. I dunno. I remember being in Blythe in August for a wedding. It was still 93 degrees at midnight. I had a motel room and was planning to stay overnight but decided to hit the road, figured I could be back behind the Orange curtain in 3 hours and wake up cool!

Speaking of beer... Had some good ones in Sandpoint, Idaho over the weekend. Was there for the Chafe 150 ride. Best kept secret ride in the PNW That I've been on. The route, the scenery, the people, the SAG, the stops and the local scene poundsignEPIC @IBOHUNT!

A few years back, I did a car show out in Vegas in July. We got packed up and ready to leave the speedway at about 1:30 in the morning. The temperature was 104º. I live in a sorta-desert-- it's 10pm on the first day of summer and the temp has dropped to a cool 94º. I was on the bike by 5:30am, and it was already 77º. I can't understand what motivates people to live in the actual desert.

Found a cool new strava toy the other day (go to relive.cc and link your strava if you want to try it out). It does a cool satellite replay of your ride. Here's an example from this morning:

I reckon it's way cooler on long rides... 21 miles is sort of brief. In other news my HR monitor seems to be monitoring low these days. Or my heart isn't working.

Darn no backward tracking. It would have been nice to have known about this before my poundsignepic @IBOHUNT Chafe 150 ride last weekend.

No kidding! But now you know. Send them a nice email and see if they can't make an exception, that would be a fun one to see. They sort of hint that it's possible.

Or reupload it and then just delete it after you get the video...

Relive is pretty neato

It has about the same utility as the EREA tool, but it's cool nonetheless.

went out for 12.3 miles early this afternoon with my oldest son; came home and loaded that ride to Strava. Then an hour later left the house and did 23.8 miles https://www.relive.cc/view/620919511 for a total of 36 miles today.

At four miles from home called the family to meet me for burgers and ice cream at the C&D drive-in.

Had a funny experience on the bike today - road 50 miles down to seal beach and back and the headwind going down was intense! I caught up to and passed a few people... on the presumption that the actual speedy folks get out early in the morning to avoid the heat. I caught up to one young gent on a Felt TT bike, full aero helmet, the works. I passed him, and when the wind kicked up again and I slowed, he passed me back, so I followed him for a little bit and then he slowed down and I passed him. Kind of nice to have a little motivation on an otherwise hot dull day. I stopped at the turn around point at seal beach to eat a bar and fill my bottles, he basically circled and headed right back out. He must have stopped somewhere because I eventually caught up to him again and taking full advantage of the tail wind I blew by the guy on his full TT bike with full TT helmet and all that jazz. He was probably recovering from an Ironman yesterday or something.

So the back of his sleeveless jersey, at the bottom of the middle pocket, had a comment about Rule #27 and I was hoping ALL day that it had something to do with "no bike race shall ever be preceded by a swim nor followed by a run" or maybe the one about NO SLEEVELESS JERSEYS... but it was something about socks and goldilocks. I was very disappointed.
