Starting a paleo diet and commuting
Hi All -
As titled, i'm starting a paleo diet (did it once 2 years ago - it is amazing) as I need to have a healthier eating life style.
I am well into the "Clydesdale" status at 279lbs this morning where a "reasonable" weight for me is in the 220lb range (at 5' 11"). I would eventually like to get back to the 190lb range, but that would be going back 20 years! However, it is a worthy goal and i believe possible.
I am 50yrs and in generally excellent health (recent Dr. visit confirms this) aside from my weight - in the obese range.
I'm wondering if i should take a week or two from commuting while my chemistry adjusts?
My commute is ~14 miles 1-way and has a lot of hills. I haven't been riding much lately, but i can usually manage it reasonably well. However, the trip home is noticeably harder (over the course of the 14 miles it is generally uphill).
So, should i take a week to acclimate to the new diet or just commute as usual?
Thanks in advance!!!

Might be good to take a week or so to acclimate. After that, try a recreational ride of that length to check how you feel. Good? Back to commuting. Awful? Give it another week. Somewhere in-between? Tough it out and commute.

Sounds like sage advise....kinda sorta what i was thinkin', but i've been known to 'push it' and 'regret it' (and get me a BUCKET!!!). Always a good idea to gather 2nd opinions.
THanks!

50 in October, and fat right now.
Taking off a couple of weeks after 5 weeks of nearly no-carb. Got really dry (as in water intake & output all the time, like I couldn't hardly keep-up lol) and DID start to lose fat. I didn't use a scale, just some clothes as a measure. Gonna start again after the 4th. I'll say this, when I re-did the sugars (last Wednesday), the water weight came back quickly. I knew it would. And it did.
Regarding riding, budget additional time is my strong advice. Low-carb riding is a not-fast thing, and frequently more painful than as-usual. At least in first weeks. But unless you're crumping and need to rest/not move, I see no reason to refrain. In fact, seat time allowed me to covet what I intend/ed to eat, and not eat, if that makes any sense.
Google r/keto and r/zero carb, and this gal on YouTube is very instructive regarding easy cooking ideas. And get a rotisserie. I've a Ronco. Meat is so so so easy this way.
