November 2016 100+ Mile Thread
Goal 250 Miles
11/2 — 17.0
11/4 — 64.2
11/11 — 40.4
11/13 — 11.0
11/18 — 34.0
11/20 — 18.5
11/22 — 31.2
11/26 — 19.6
MTD — 235.9
11/26 — Today I traveled to the Hoosier National Forest in Norman Indiana and rode in the Gravel Grovel. I did the 20-mile Challenge Ride (1,100 ft. of elevation) rather than the 60-mile race (3,300 ft.). Since I'm from Northern Indiana where the terrain is much more flat, some of the bigger hills (14-15% grade) were still a challenge. Although the 20-mile ride wasn't technically a race, I did finish 6th out of 30 (and on a heavy old steel hybrid outfitted for gravel). The scenery and the ascents were terrific and the people I met were super nice. If I train hard enough in 2017, I will register for the 60-mile race next year.

MTD a whopping 8.6
Not setting a goal this month as pretty sure most my "mileage" will end up being time on trainer.

Beautiful weather. Rode Tuesday but last night cleaned up leaves so didn't ride. Probably the last of 70° weather for me.

Since I had decent results aiming for, and achieving, 150 miles in October, I'll shoot for 150 again for November.
Nov 02 = 10.07 miles.
Nov 06 = 15.24 miles.
Nov 07 = 14.16 miles.
MTD = 39.47 miles of (at least) 150 miles.

Thursday had a quick ride to go get something to eat. Was going to ride a while, stop and grab a sandwich to take to the park, then ride some more. 90° at work, get into a car that's 100° to go home, I overestimated how warm the 49° it actually was out and with just short sleeves and shorts, it was quite cold as the sun disappeared. So only rode 6 miles.
Saturday had a beautiful ride around Pittsburgh with some great views. It was a great photography and touring ride led by a buddy. Pics showed in the Road Cycling weekend thread.
Sunday unloaded the bike from the car, gave the back wheel a spin and found my 3rd broken spoke. No riding as no shops are open until Tuesday. Really wanted to get a ride in Sunday and tonight. Going to a different shop further away as I'm not thrilled about the one close to home.

11/03 - 6.1 miles
11/05 - 26.1 miles
MTD - 59.5 miles

Started bike commuting in April of this year, first time in 10 years and first time with a real winter (was in FL before). Not digging the time change or the colder weather but we'll see how it goes! Only rode to work two days last week, but just ordered a cycling jacket that should help on those chilly mornings. Hope to get at least 3 commutes in per week (min 26 miles rt).
11/1 - 32.8mi (commuting)
11/3 - 2.5mi (short ride on a city rental bike)
11/4 - 34mi (commuting)
11/5 - 33.6mi (nice Saturday ride to the airport and back)
11/7 - 13.7mi (commute, still need to ride home)
MTD - 116.6
I try to ride 100 miles a week so, and I really need to get back under 200lbs - I'm 225 (6' tall).

Non omnino gravis
I don't ride Tuesdays (or Fridays,) so I reckon this makes today my "mid month" check-in. I'm going for a bit more mileage on Mondays and Wednesdays, shorter on Thursdays and Sundays, and Saturday being the "open to whatever" day.
November to date:
417.6 miles
26 hours
13,892ft^
Hit the 50% mark on both the MTS and Climbing challenges on Strava today, so I suppose I'm pacing things pretty well.

Nov MTD: 125.20 miles.
Looking to get at least a metric century in later this month. Should be a good month for horsepower.

Added 45 miles to the total with yesterdays commute.
Almost taken out by a texting driver on the morning commute. Had my strobe light on the front and high visability clothing. None of that made a difference since the oncoming driver was simultaneously texting (our paths were close enough that I could see her looking down at her phone) while making a left turn across my path. Fortunately I avoided the idiot and then yelled loudly my opinion of her driving.
Continue to Be careful out there fellow cyclists. Lots of distracted drivers on the road.

I just started cycling again 9 weeks ago so I'm pretty happy with the progress. Commuting to/from work two/three times a week has definitely helped keep my mileage up!

Well, winter hit this weekend. Lightup night in Pittsburgh on Friday. Went down in the afternoon and rode around solo. 70+ beautiful weather riding in shorts and t-shirt in the middle of the afternoon. Grabbed a bite to eat and met up with my coworker and his wife and rode some more. As night fell we met up with another then got word that a few more were on their way. Everyone had seperate plans but our group ended up all together yet again. Rode up to Mount Washington to see the Christmas tree at The Point. I was over at the rail taking pictures and went back to the bikes to find mine all alone. One guy popped out from the shadows of the church, he didn't want to leave my bike there and no one knew I was across the road.
So down from Mount Washington we zoomed to catch the rest of the group, great fun. He's on his new road bike all tucked down and I'm right behind him sitting almost bolt upright. I lean over the hybrid bars and accelerate and zoom past him, LOL. Weight trumps aero on downhills, haha.
Got to the bottom and get a text. "Where are you?" I reply we were down by the river looking for them. "We're still up here, come back up!" Ha ha, nope, not climbing back up that.
Rode around the Burgh some more. Headed over to the north shore for the fireworks. I only rode 30 miles in total but it was an absolute blast running around the city at night.
And now Saturday and Sunday hit and there's a fierce wind and snow all day long. I'll still get some cold riding in, but Friday was probably the last of the nice days.
May as well give ya a pic of the city....

11/15 - 5.6 miles
11/17 - 9.7 miles

MTD - 107.1 miles
