This is a sub-forum for Clydes and Athenas, a pound or six more/less on a bike pales in the pounds we all put on the bike. I played this dance for the past year -- carbon or steel, steel or carbon. I bought the bike that felt best under me. It happened to be carbon. Steel for some. I had these visions of going back to steel being a near out-of-body experience. AWESOME material. But we're all different.

A workable geometry, a good wheelset, a proper fit ... those are your keys.

I went steel because for the cost of a basic Carbon frame, I could get a custom steel one.

That ensured I got the fit, geometry and ride characteristics I wanted.

Never regretted after 16 years of riding it.

Where you ride plays a big part in this. If you live and ride on smooth roads, you likely won't be able to notice a difference in frame material.

If you happen to live and ride where I do (Texas/chipseal country roads) then frame material suddenly becomes a factor in ride comfort.

Good point. Some of our roads can jar fillings loose.
