A newbie hello from TN. I'm 5'11 @ 329 (DOWN from 380!). I'm currently looking for my first bike to help with weight loss and fitness. I workout on my Total Gym and exercise bike 5 days a week. I do get out and walk too. Looking thru this forum has gotten me excited about riding! I applaud everyone here who has taken steps toward better fitness!

48 years old, 6'4" 265#s down from 326 in February 2013. Plan on losing another 20#s. I started riding as running hurt my knees and then my last knee surgery..... Doc told me no more high impact exercise so I chose riding. I commute 10 miles to work and enjoy being outdoors. Have a Giant Sedona but started busting the spokes and now bending the front set so looking to get a bike that can handle my new found leg strength. when I was 326 and riding never had a problem with spokes or sets. Any suggestions on a good ride for under 1k will be greatly appreciated. Clydesdales rule!

Hi there. I am 5'11 and 238#. Just bought a bike for me and one for the wife with the trailer for little man. Target weight is 195 with a combination of cycling/running/weight training. I have a feeling that I will be spending the majority of my BF time in the Clydesdale forum and hope I can help others while working on my own goals!

Alright.....been posting a few months so I thought I should introduce myself here.
My name is Steven. I am 26 years old...5'11 and weigh 266. I just got into cycling a few months ago and LOVE IT. All I think about now. I ride a Trek DS 8.2 with a swapped out fork. I went rigid instead of suspension when I realized that a majority of my rides are on the road. No real weight goal at the moment.....just want to lose it. Hopefully I can hit it hard next spring and summer as the weather is getting a tad cooler, but I dont plan to stop riding anytime soon...

Hi everyone! My name is Bill, I'm 46 yo. 6'1", and weigh 265 lbs. I'm down from 310 lbs. 2 years ago. I bought my first bike in I don't know how many years early this spring, but because of work and a broken foot, I actually gained weight instead of losing weight. I finally got the boot off, and have lost 10 lbs. over the last 3 weeks.
Someone posted that we should post more bike pics, so here are 2 of my 3 bikes:
This is my '13 Fuji Sportif 1.7 that I bought in April. A really nice entry level bike, and I love to ride it.
This is my '84 Schwinn Voyageur. I found it on CL, and bought it to ride to work. A nice riding bike, but I'm not a big fan of down tube shifters.

Old and too heavy
I'm 6'2" and 217 pounds. What makes it worse is that I'm crowding seventy years old pretty hard. I'm currently riding twenty miles three times a week and feeling pretty good. Being new to all this, I'm wondering if I should be riding more times per week, riding longer distances, or working for a faster time for the twenty miles I do ride. I'm riding a Diamondback Edgewood LX "hybrid" (that's how it was sold to me) and, since I've been recording, logged over three hundred miles on the thing.
Any and all advice would be very welcome as I am very new to bicycling.
Now, to give everyone a real good laugh: Back in 1961, when I first enlisted, I was 6'2" and 114 pounds!! I looked like a toothpick!!

Believe it or not, I have one from Ft. Devens, Mass. Now all I have to do is find it! When I do, I'll scan it and post it. Be warned that I am not responsible for any injuries caused by uncontrolled hilarity.

Since my overly long intro thread got moved here, I'll keep this short and sweet
Just started riding again. Until I get my grubby hands on a light set, it's going to be 1-2 times a week when I have daylight available to ride. I started in June at 278, weighed this morning at 271. Not a lot of loss, but it's all in the right direction and I seem to be picking up speed as I lost 1.5 lb last week. I'm currently on a Huffy Mt Havoc (front suspension mt bike) with no front deraileur. I'm working on getting said lights and 26x1.5 street tires, then I will start putting cash back for something better. I figure I'll talk the wife into a new bike somewhere around 250lbs, lol!
I don't really have a current pic since I run from cameras like I'm hollywood elite, but we did take a trip down the Ocoee river on July 20th this year. This pic is right after my wife went in, and our guide tried to grab her and went in himself. I'm on the far left. Wow... not a flattering angle, LOL!!!

Well I'm baaaa.aaaack.
But it's not like I ever went away ... I was just hanging out in that purgatory of 195-200 and went back up to near 202.
Had the gallbladder out, got down to 193, and then it's been all uphill since then gaining weight even despite a good summer or riding and surfing. Odd.
So now I gotta buckle down (again/harder), as things got out of hand as they usually do this time of year -- I'm aiming for a 185lb of ripped 52 yr old muscle damnit, oh well, back on the chain gang.
Why is it so hard to lose but so easy to gain?
Now I remember, part of the weight gain coincided with the dog no longer being able to walk. That's a lot of nighttime 15-45 minute walks. I guess it adds up.

Well, I guess I no longer qualify as a Clyde. I'm now 195 pounds. I used to weigh 375 pounds. I am 6'6" tall. I'm starting to look downright emaciated!
All with hardly a few dozen miles on the bike for the year. I hurt my back and so can neither run nor bike with any comfort more than a short distance.

I've been zigging and zagging between 215 and 195 for the last 6 years, that 195 barrier has been a brute and trying to keep weight off in my busy work season has been frustrating. Even when I got down there in April it was just a struggle to stay there. 199 this a.m. 201.6 the other day, dancing around the Mendoza, or should I say Clydeoza line.

I say that to offer hope, and personally, not to take any ride for granted.

update: ack, 200.2 dehydrated . . . just can't seem to break through . . . it has to be a mental barrier.

Hello all! New Clyde checking in!
I started my cycling adventure two weeks ago on a new to me Panasonic Sport 1000. So far I have been having a blast. What led me to cycling is naturally a need to get into shape. I am not a runner, my right knee can not take it anymore. And swimming pools are just.....swimming pools. They don't change much. So cycling it was.
I seem to be 50lbs into the Clyde label, but here is to changes!
Happy riding
Doug

Hey there all, been a long time lurker here for a while. 6'4" and 258# as of this morning. I should be shedding some weight here now that I have replaced my daily commuter that my ex-wife just absolutely had to have. So its good to be back in the saddle, well sort of. I have to shed about 10 more #'s to get past the fear of breaking spokes for the wheels I just bought...LOL.
I will post some pictures a little later.
