No worries LOF1! Keep it fun. And if you take some time off, just get back on when the spirit moves you. I'm betting one of those times it'll stick and you'll get into a regimen.
How's the bike fit? Make sure you've got the seat set properly. Your knees will thank you.

Fits good. Even got my "old fat guy" padded seat. Hopefully will get some good weather before it gets too cold. If not, next year will be a good year!

Howdy from Texas where Cycling is year round,
Just turned 60, 240lbs 6'1" ...I wasn't sure wether to post to Clydsdale or Geezer area.
I rode with a club (road bikes) back in the early 80's..and have not been on non-motorized bike since then.
While I have no health issues, I wanted to get some cardio and fitness back into my day and drop 40lbs or so.
I had the pleasure of attending the MS Tour of Champions last year (as their Semi-Driver) and got interested in bikes again.
Against all advice and my better judgement, I purchased a cheapo $99 hybrid from Wally two days ago and spent 3 hours reassembling it properly.
I need to see if I can stick with it before dropping $500 - $1000 on a keeper bike.
I was a mechanic in my past life and have around 15K in tools laying around (need to build a work stand), consequently I'm not afraid to do 95% of my own setup and maintenance...(Thanks Youtube).
That's about all that I know,,,Except WOW cycling has changed since 1982.

I felt like I needed a Chiropractor after 5mi ...I know should have listened to experience & reason.
We (Me,Wife, adult son) went bike shopping LBS and found bikes that fit, and did not break the bank Merry Christmas early.
Mine: 2016 Giant Escape 3 Silver
Hers: 2015 LIV Alight 2 White
J.R's: 2016 Giant Escape 3 Charaoal
The bikes all seem to have decent reviews for entry level machines.

32 year old guy from Vancouver, BC area, 6'1" about 240 pounds. Looking to get back on a bike for fitness and enjoyment. Used to ride a lot with a friend, haven't ridden much in the last 10 years. Couple times just to make sure that it really is just like riding a bike

Hey everyone....5'10 320lbs was 387 Jan 1st this year! Just getting into road cycling....been using a 1995 Kona Cindercone with SLICKS to ride paths. Just bought a 2014 Raleigh Revenio and plan to become 1 with it over the coming months.....or at least until it is nice out...."WINTER IS COMING". Been able to lose weight with proper eating....and exercise. I have not done road riding since 1988 (TREK 400) that was way to big.....but got me everywhere and ws the 1st bike i purchased myself. Anyway, hoping to use my new digs to help with the continued weight loss and new lifestyle.

Aloha everyone! I'm a 6'1, 220lb clyde first time poster. I've been using the site for a number of years for bike maintenance and general cycling tips and decided to finally take the plunge and officially register.
I commute and ride the local Washington DC area roads on a 1986 Trek Elance 400D (Reynolds 531 upgraded with a mix of my friends various spare parts). I also have a GT Peace 9r multi hardtail that I bought off CL as a frame and built up for the local trails (Fountainhead, Rosaryville, Meadowood to name a few and can proudly say that I had the pleasure of riding Raystown and Gambrills State parks this year).
Looking forward to reading fellow clyde's tips/suggestions/observations and sharing a few pics of my latest rides and build projects!

Greetings... 45 year old superclyde here. Like many here, I truly believe that cycling is playing a major role in literally saving my life.
I've always been 'large' guy, 6'4"+ and usually 250-270 ....but since 2010 I have eaten my way through depression and being a primary caretaker during my beloved father's multiple year illness so I ended up tipping the scales at around 365 after his passing last September (RIP pops). It took me a few months to get my bearings but in early 2015 I became obsessed with getting back to healthy habits and living again. This didn't only entail exercise and losing weight, as I also had to quit a 2 1/2 pack a day cigarette habit.
Started by eating better (not great but better) and switched to smoking pipes/cigars while doing some walking. Then switched to smokeless tobacco (nasal stuff and swedish snus) and at the end of the summer, after being inspired by a friend who lost 145lbs by dieting and cycling daily, I dove into the cycling hard. Picked up a Trek 920, a Salsa Mukluk and an Ice Recumbent trike (Adventure RS HD) and since mid September I have been riding 15-20 miles each morning before work and 50-150 miles on the weekend depending on what my schedule allows (that first month was rough but the recovery has been exponential! and so much fun!)
Haven't gotten on a scale lately and have no plans to (also know i have built a tremendous muscle mass pushing my FA up the local inclines, I'm guessing I'm likely 280ish now?) but I can proudly say that I am down from 4xl shirts to 2xl, and even some larger XL brands are fitting. Down from 48inch waste jeans to 42/44 and I am fitting into clothes I haven't fit into for many years again. I also finally have my wind and (relatively) endurance back. Best of all is I feel wonderful, despite spending a small fortune in such a short time. Money well spent. and the money I am saving sans cigarettes and from skipping all those large expensive meals will pay for the new obsession easily overtime (yeah I know I know... but it's how I am rationalizing it! LOL)
glad to be here and looking forward to learning more. Thanks for saving my life.

yeah he was one of a kind - and missed terribly- but I know he's super proud of me on so many fronts - most especially that I have gotten my 'joie de vivre' back. He continues to inspire me

Hello! I am a 39 yr old website developer living in Minneapolis. I got into riding a bike 3 years ago and my second year in I went from 250lbs to 216lbs. Alas, some of that has come back due to my Wallgoose bike being over-ridden to the point of falling apart. However, I just upgraded to a new Cannondale Bad Boy 4 and am ready to lose lbs and gain miles again. Currently 5'8 225lbs

Hi,
I'm an almost-40 (two weeks and I'm there) programmer who, since around the start of November, dropped from 310lb/140.6kg to 278lb/126kg. I started riding my bike around (to work, short rides with my wife, etc) maybe a third of the way through that time period, and starting tracking my rides about three weeks ago. I've been poking around the forum here with no account and figured it was time to register and introduce myself.

Hi Everyone! I am 5'11" and currently at 230lbs...definitely a Clyde....I rode over 1K miles since June and was at the 200lb mark just a few months ago. Work and apathy have conspired to get me where I am at the moment. I will be putting as much time as I can on the stationary bike at the gym for the next few months. Hoping to weigh far less when I can finally climb back on my bike in the spring.

I'm 6' 1", 36 years old, 398 down from 485 back in July 2015. I've been riding a bike I built out of a Sette Phantom CF frame but equipped with road tires. I just ordered a Focus Cayo frameset and a full Ultegra 6800 group as my reward to ride when I hit 350. I picked up a Trek Alpha 1000 to get used to road biking. Its a real Craigslist special!

Hey all, my name's Josh. I ride fixed, building a new bike right now.
6' 1", 235 lbs, but that's up from 208 last year. Taking all the weight off again, hoping to get back down to about 200 even by the spring.

Please Allow Me to Re-Introduce Myself...
Hi Folks -
OK, this is sort of a re-introduction as I used to post on here somewhat regularly in the 2011/2012 timeframe, I think. Around that time, I was cycle commuting 65 miles/week and had gotten down to 190 or so lbs. Between that, job changes and other things, I stopped posting.
So, now we're back. I haven't surveyed the damage, but I would say that I'm hanging around 230 to 235 lbs. I've started doing a partial cycle commute to work (I mix commuter train and cycling to get to/from); shooting to do this at least 3 days/week. I've also started Grant Petersen's/Dr. Atkins Eat Bacon/Don't Jog diet (High fat, low carb). I did this in 2000 and it worked great until I had to have cookies and beer. 16 years later, I don't drink any more and I've been off of baked goods for a year, so there is potential for some better longevity, this time.
I"m looking to lose ~ 8-ish lbs/month for a total of 30 or so lbs. That said, I know how I am and once I get to a goal weight, I'll keep pushing to see how far I can go. All or nothing attitude can be a pain, at times.
Anyways, good to be back!

Hello everyone! I'm currently 225lb 5'11'' The only bike I have is a Trek Xcaliber 7 29er. I used to ride a lot of trails but when school I couldn't make time. I hope to reach 3,500 miles this year. Today was my first day of riding on the streets, a little bit of mud and pavement got the best of me and I fell. Got a nice scab to go with it as well. I'm still reaching for the 3,500 mile goal. I'll just have to push harder to make up for this week's loss.

Hello,
5'11 255. I ride, mostly for fun, about 10 miles here and there on a Bianchi Sport SX my uncle gave me, fastest I have done is about 12 mph avg. I want to be averaging some 40-50 miles per week, but you know.....life, work, responsibilities get in the way
I am looking to start doing some half centuries, with the goal of doing at least one metric before the end of the calendar year.
Been a reader for awhile and many of you have inspired me, even though you may not know it.

Hello there! I'm new here too. I'm a Clydesdale myself, 6ft tall and holding steady for the last three years at 226 lbs!
My standard ride is a department store MTB, a 30-year old Krane Easy Road that is apparently made of lead. I've had it since I was 13 years old (I'm 43 now), and is currently the only bike I feel comfortable riding. I've outfitted it with road tires and am nearly done replacing the drivetrain so I can start commuting in the spring.
I also have an 80s Centurion road bike that I love, but feels a bit too light for me. It might be that I'm not used to drop bars, but something doesn't feel right... perhaps a bit more time on the bike will cure that!

Hi there, I just joined yesterday to get some advice on bikes for a Cylde like myself. I currently am 19 years of age, in college and weigh 445. I have struggled with weight all of my life and am trying to get it all off. Certain health issues have contributed to my weight gain over the years without me knowing about them. I had sleep apnea which was not diagnosed until about 5 months ago. My doctor suspects I've had for over a decade, and simply just now realized how I sleep isn't normal. Needless to say I feel like a different person after going on a CPAP at night. I was also diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes (Insulin resistance from fat, not lack of insulin production) around the same time as when I was diagnosed with apnea. Since then, I have lost about 20 pounds with diet alone and my A1c (what they use to check your average blood sugar over 3 months) is at 5.1 (basically perfect) So I've decided its time to take my weight loss to the next level.
I've spent the last few years off and on going to gyms, walking, etc. But between my apnea causing severe muscle fatigue and simple lack of energy to exercise, I always fell off the wagon, and I was never able to get behind healthy eating because I guess my body thought I needed the extra energy from fatty foods. Anyway I digress.
Main reason I'm here is to not only learn about biking as a lifestyle, but to learn about bikes, and hopefully make a few friends along the way.

No I don't, but I've been getting some help from people on the forums trying to find a bike to buy that will suite my size. I ended up finding a Cannondale CAD2 M300 in good condition for $100 on craigslist. What do you ride? EDIT: Just saw that it shows your bikes under your avatar, any suggestions though?
