Hambone and Davis,

Thanks for the input..... I do realize it comes off more slowly the closer one gets to the goal. I have lost most of my weight in the last couple of months. My activity level is WAY up. Biking, weight lifting, and I also play on two indoor soccer teams and just joined an outdoor soccer team. That said I do want to lose at a reasonable rate..... I never want to go back to even where I am now.

If you noticed I said my goal was to be "near" 200 by years end, not at 200. I have set an appointment with my Doc to set my "goal" weight, which will most likely be around 205-210.

The scale is not really all that important to me as is the lifestyle and the way I feel. I am doing more and feeling better than I have in 8-9 years. To me that is what it is all about..... being able to do the things I want to do. Goals for next year..... 12 miles of hell mountain bike race.... ride my first road century....hotter than hell one hundred.... maybe take a cross state tour.....you see where I am going.

This is a great forum and I find you guys to be very inspirational..... I am proud to be a Clydesdale!!!!!

Thank you both for keeping my goals in check,

David

I have to admit, my goal is to not be a Clydesdale sometime in 2007

There, I said it.

It felt good ;)

Hi there.

I'm 6' 3" 230lb. and like being a clydesdale.

I'd like to get down between 215-220 but I'm coming from 250-260 so I'm doing well.

I love riding and got into it about three years ago when after using the excercise bike at the gym I aksed myself if it wouldn't be mre fun to ride out in the real world. It also keeps me in great shape for hockey season which in NY is October through March.

I ride a 2004 Cannondale Cyclocross Disc which was certainly not my first choice but at the price I got it ($600 with 500 miles on it) I couldn't turn down.

Sweet. That is really what it is all about. The weight is just one metric, but less important than many other factors. Your cardio health has to be rockin!

Hello all. Fellow clyde at 6'2" 225lbs. There was mention of wheels earlier in the thread. I wwas wondering if anybody knows if FSA wheels are good and if so are they clyde friendly? Thanks in advance

DaBigRague 09-01-06 09:02 PM

We'll guys I did it today, I went out for the innagural ride. I ran my miles in the AM, and did my leg workout. I watched the weather while at the healthclub, and it signaled rain. Our boss told us to leave early and enjoy the weekend. We'll it was getting nicer in Chicago with overcast, but I said screw it.

I bit it in the first 30 seconds after I was locked in, but after that I knocked out 20 miles. I felt awesome, and I forgot how much fun it is to ride outside. Being buckled in via shoes is a totally different feel than pedalling strait! I am hooked.

270, and hopefulling decreasing at a decreasing rate!!!!!!!!!!

I am selling this Cannondale frame because at my weight it's a little too harsh with how I like to ride. Steel is the way to go for me as it can provide all day comfort. I will be putting the all-new parts on a recent Miyata 710 acquisition!

I ride Mavic MA3 rims on Shimano 105 hubs on the Cannondale and Mavic CXP-21 on Suzue Promax hubs for the fuji fixer.

Let me know if one of you fellow DC clydes wants to bomb around.

(I'm on the far left in this first pic, taken after my first metric century ride report)

"I'm taking prinside and atenenol along with a cholesterol med. Anyone else taking meds? How long before you can get rid of them with the added exercise of biking? How do you make sure your blood pressure doesn't get too low"

I bought one of those small wrist cuffs to keep track of BP...if your BP is to low you will probably get the dizzies. I would check with your doc before going off anything. I am on lisinopril and my doc said if I wanted to find out if my BP was okay without the meds then go off it for a week and see what happens...that is what MY doc said...please check with yours before doing anything

I'm planning on it. I did it last year.

The deal with the wife is I can sign up Sunday morning, not before. But it's a week away and looking good. I've got my email address on the thread that went up about the ride.

Air 09-03-06 09:03 AM

Where is that thread? Searched around but couldn't find it.

When I just started my "diet"(more like lifestyle change  ) I take Xenical. I was 290 at that point.

It's basically a fat blocker. If you take it almost all of your fat intake will go thru you. Literally. You will literally **** oil. I kid you not! I only took it for two weeks, it was horrible.:o

I did have high (bad) cholesterol and BP, I could take meds for that, but my doctor said if I lose enough weight, they should take care of themself.

FYI, Xenical should be available over the counter sometime next year in the US.

Reminds me of the Wow! brand of chips. If you read the labels carefully one of the warning labels used to say "may cause anal leakage" :o. On a bag of potato chips! I don't know if the warning is still there but I always laughed about it with a friend of mine until we tried them and found out what they were talking about... Ahh, the lessons we learn and how we learn them...

I'm laughing so hard I am crying. Too funny. "Anal leakage".

As for the Xenacal - is that stuff healthy for you? Sounds pretty gross. How much weight did you lose with it? Did you keep it off?

Well, it was prescribed by my nutritionist(she's an md), so it's safe for me.

It think it's a great aid to get you STARTED, but in the long run, it's up to you.

Because to be heathly you have to change your diet. For some people (me) staying off of junk food is hard, so to help the transition to healthier food, I take Xenical.

I started at 290 last x-mas, I'm now 240. Again I only took xenical for the first 2 weeks. I actually still have a few box of them in my fridge.

Here's a link: http://www.xenical.com/

It should be available over the counter (no prescribtion) next year.

Panic 09-03-06 07:05 PM

Sounds pretty interesting. I'd be afraid to ride the bike after taking it ;)

Dubbayoo 09-03-06 07:29 PM

if you want an appetite suppressant hoodia is very good, so much that i don't use it on weekends since i ride more and need to eat more.

Panic 09-03-06 10:06 PM

That was too funny. I tried those pringles. Gave up after a few chips.

Awful.

shakeNbake 09-03-06 10:45 PM

FYI, you get the same effect with Xenical.

This is the NYC Century thread.

slvoid sent an email to the people who were listed as riding it asking for emails so that those of us doing the 100 mile could touch base at the start.

I took this once. Once I saw the slick it left in the bowl, I knew it was wrong for me.
