I'm thinking* about it. We'll see if if my new Fat Cyclist jersey fits, otherwise you have to wait.

The thing is, Athena pics might be too alluring to the roadie forum to come and nab.

Panasonic made some nice bikes! Not familiar with yours, but you should really consider riding it if it's in good condition! Just have the bike shop make sure nothing has dried up and it's all in order. I ride an 84 steel bike, a 97 carbon fiber and my new bike is pretty much the same kind of bike as my 84, only a touring bike. Bikes don't go defunct, really. Your needs just change...and flashy new ones attract bike theives!

Hi guys. I've read this thread with great interest over the last few weeks. It feels nice to not to be alone in the world. I'm 46 ,5'9" and weight 208.5 as of this morning. Lots of great info from this discussion. I'm getting back into riding after a good 9 years. I was 185 around 1996 and job change , separation from the wife and other drama has contributed to my weight gain. I ride a 17 year old Panasonic sport 500. ( don't think they manufacture bikes anymore). Exploring buying a new bike but don't have the funds at this time. I live in NYC, does anyone know of any bike/ riding clubs that I can join ?

Damn roadie forum.....ruining everything for us. ;)

6'2 276. Down from 285. Just picked up a Colnago and is my incentive to ride more! Pics to follw once it arrives.
Was 215 in the Army and was in top shape. Amazing what a back injury and piss poor excuses will do

I've decided to post a photo... part of my personal growth and taking risks. Then, maybe other Athenas will, too. I still want to wait for my "fat cyclist" jersey though....

BeckyW 07-19-07 07:18 PM

OK... time to get brave and post pics. Solveg, don't back out now! You gave me this courage!

I don't have a true "before" picture. My highest weight was about 415. This pic was taken in May 2007, 395 lbs. I'm at 383 now, really started focusing in early June. Next pic will be me on my bike!

(this is before all the fit adjustments - when I first got it, I didn't have good enough balance to ride it with the seat up like it should be!)

solveg 07-19-07 07:36 PM

No way I'm backing out... Jersey should be here next week. If not, I'll post something else.

OK... if that's near your house, WALK UP THE HILLS. And I ain't cycling there. You have to come to Kansas. I don't think there's a foot of elevation near my house.

Your bike looks really* compact. You should post this in the other thread and see what the guys have to say.

LOL!! No, that's at meteor crater, went there earlier this summer on my way to the Grand Canyon. NW Ark isn't QUITE that steep ;)

Here's a pic of where I live (generally - snagged off google images) - even if you won't come (and I hope you do!), I'd love to experience riding in Kansas!

Beautiful smile!

I'm sure this will be part of a progression of successively svelter pictures!;) Good for you for posting a pic! Proud of ya!:D

I admire your courage, Becky. Unless you can face the challenge, you will never overcome it.

KingTermite 07-20-07 08:20 AM

Nice pic, Becky.

Great smile. I knew some Athena would be brave enough to meet my challenge. :D

KingTermite 07-20-07 09:41 AM

Well I haven't posted a picture in here since it was in the Road Bikes forum. Here is one taken just the other night.

Sportin' my cowboy (more Stevie Ray Vaughn) hat.

I’ve been lurking a couple of weeks including a few posts; mostly to this forum and the 50+ forum since I’m pushing 67 (Dang, that can’t be right!!)

My weight was going in the right direction after my quadruple bypass surgery and subsequent cardiac rehab in late 2005 and early 2006. Sorry to confess I’ve regained most of my weight and hope I’ve topped out at 250 lbs (I’m probably 5’-8 or 9”).

I hope to start a combo biking/walking program soon for obvious reasons but probably won’t start ‘til another surgery to improve circulation in my right leg.

My plan is to dust off my old Trek 700 hybrid for road runs and my old Worksman newspaper boy for trips to the grocery store and cruising the hood.

Ever the optimist, I’ve already ordered upgrade and improvement items for both bikes and look forward to sharing with this group.

I don't know if they do or not...what I meant was before there was a Clyde subforum, this thread was in the Roadie subforum. It was moved here when this subforum was created.

Welcome, Jerry.

I have been struggling for a while now. I was posting to the 50+ weight loss challenge thread but got tired of being a Yo YO:eek: I have managed to stay at about 250. My goal is to drop another 20 lbs before the end of the year. Here are a couple of pictures of me from the Denver/Parker group ride

Is that a regular backpack on your bike? That is so* convenient. There's no way to put saddlebags on a bent, is there? You can't go get groceries somehow?

That's a seatback bag for a 'bent, it looks like.

By the way, there are panniers racks for a bent that hang them under the seat as well. or there's the solution I came up with for Crazylady's bent....
http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o...tRide001-1.jpg

The previous solution, a single pannier. The upper pic is a huge improvement!

That is so* cool. I love to see bikes set up to do things. I've been kinda having my eye on those dutch cargo bikes for a dog, but I think the bikes themselves look a little piggy....

Sandwarrior 07-22-07 08:58 AM

No, it's actually a regular backpack. This is what I wore when riding my DF. I cut the shoulder straps and added clips, so I can remove it for cleaning and maintenance. It has a pocket for my camelback envelope, a big pocket for my tools, spare tubes etc... and a smaller pocket for my wallet, phone and sunscreen. I do have saddlebags for my bike, but I don't have the pictures on this computer. When I get home I will add the photos. I do alot of errands on my bent and I have gone to get groceries, albeit not much.
