6' 275lbs and over 50yrs old...My goal is 220 by the end of the year...In the end will remain a "Clydesdale"... Been lifting weights for nearly 3mos and doing elliptical work at the gym for cardio. Have lost 15lbs in that period. Now that the weather has improved I will be biking with my new Trek FX 7.9 which I pickup this evening... Hope to share this journey with my like minded brethren...

I just started riding my bike the other day and I'm fluctuating between 220lbs and 215lbs, so I guess I can join the Clydesdale club! This is the heaviest I've ever been, but college, stress, and lack of exercise does that to a person who used to weigh 150. My plan is to ride as much as I can, eat healthier and even if I don't drop a lot of weight, attend/ride in the Month of Mud competition in western PA.

This is a bit embarrassing, but I wasn't able to complete 4 miles on flat land, so I've got a long way to go.

Hey everyone. I definitely fit into the Clydesdale mold at 5'10" and 270#'s! I have 2 goals for the rest of 2011. My 1st goal is to get down to 200#. Even then I would consider myself a Clyde as I am pretty beefy even when down towards my ideal weight. 2nd is to ride the McKenzie river mtn bike trail this September with a buddy of mine. Here is a pick of my '06 Jamis Durango that I plan to run ragged. I'm looking at getting some slicks and bar extenders to make the long hauls a little easier.

Welcome, DonovanJM. At 5'-10", 270, you're just about exactly where I was a year and two weeks ago. So I know for a fact that you can do it.

Why do I feel all the blood rushing to my head when I look at the pic of your bikes? Seriously, though, my storage system used to be the same thing, back when I had a garage ceiling that wasn't completely out of reach.

Thanks for the encouragement! I know I can do it it's just the actual act of doing it that is the hard part. The really hard part is my work schedule. I work 12 hr rotating shifts so I work days one week followed by nights the next. It makes it hard to get a schedule going. Plus working 12 hours with a 30 min drive each way takes a chunk of time out of my day.

I was wondering how long until someone commented about the bike hanging from the ceiling.

22, about 215lbs. By God, I managed to still keep some weight off this winter. Here's the likely reason: many of you may recall an earlier post I made in (I believe) this thread about the new job I was picking up? Said job now involves walking (running is more like it) three or four miles per day, hauling several hundred pounds of soda and junk food all over a factory building kept at what feels like 80 degrees. As I now have tree trunks instead of legs, getting back on the bike was SHOCKINGLY easy last month, not to mention a welcome relief to my feet.

Hi all -- been a long time! I'm in the process of moving from home in Arkansas to a small town in Southern Ontario... with bike paths galore along the water! I was walking one of them -- it's a rail trail -- yesterday (bike's still back in the states) and thought of all my bikeforums friends Looking forward to getting back into it.

And since it's been 2-3 yrs since I posted, I'll reintroduce myself! I'm a big girl -- 5'11" 375 or so (down from a high of 415 or so). Did BRAML several years ago with a wonderful group from here, but haven't ridden much in the meantime. I ride a green Raleigh (I forget the model name) with 36-spoke wheels with extra-strong spokes! Hoping to see 200-250 before I'm 40! (I'm 36)

Hoping some of my old friends are still around (I see a few are, anyway), and looking forward to "meeting" new people!

I broke 2 spokes in 2 days... I'm 6.2 and around 270 lbs.
My Specialized Crosstrail has regular Alex Z-1000, 26", single wall, 36h rims with Forged alloy, double sealed, ground race, freewheel type, QR /
After doing some research, looks like the wheels on this bike are from 20th century ... single wall, freewheel... My fault... shouldn't trust my LBS sales guy
Question is... what to do to make my wheels/spokes lasts for a long time, without spending to much $$$?
Is this pretty common to brake spokes while riding on perfectly flat surface?

Thanks for any input!

Oh, and lopek... could be that your spokes aren't evenly tensioned, or that you need higher gauge spokes. I'm no wheel expert, but my experience was that I had to get my rear wheel redone with stronger spokes, and I check it for "true" (no wobble in the spin) after every ride. It was uneven when I first bought it, and I broke lots of spokes until I got it redone. Good luck!

Mega Clydesdale here!

Hello all, I am 6'1" tall but 392lbs. Worked out a schedule to go out and ride. I have my trusty 2009 Specialized Tarmac Expert, it has held my weigh well from 424lbs and it is going strong. It has been tough but I am developing a regular schedule trying to ride 6 to 10 miles daily.
I am happy to have found this thread and hope to be out of the category at some point lol
