I am 6'4" and a gooey 308lbs. I did not get much riding done last year, hence a 48 pound weight gain. 2006 will be my "Year of the bike". Rain be damed. I will be down to 210 by September.

Where do you other Clyde's get your jerseys? Do they make a road jersey that isn't super skin tight for us big guys?

Good point you bring up there. I know road cycling is all about being fast and light, but do you ever get the feeling the cycling industry caters to the thin? We are the fattest country on the planet and if anyone needs to be on a bike, its "America". So (at least) make some cycling apparel for the "Big and Tall". Wouldn't they make a killing?

Go to Jensonusa.com for over size Jerseys. The MTB folks cloths are loose fit. Azonic and Fox cloths are made for the down hill folks. But I wear it for winter riding. Very high quality made and looks sharp. I like the Fox racing gloves too. Also try Velowear.com, thats Voler online store. The do have 3X. I'm 6'1" 260# and the club cut 3x is not tight fitting. Performancebike.com and nashbar.com have good deals on clothes from time to time.

I went to www.velowear.com and picked up a couple of their basic, solid color, 3XL jerseys for $25 each. That seems like a great price to me.

Just joined the forum, now I know there's a name for people like me. Clydesdale... I can go with that. I'm 50, 6'4" and 250, working my way back down to 230 or so. Just got back into road riding after 15 years of on-again/off again mtn riding. Decided I wasn't as immortal as the younger friends I used to ride trails. Another friend was trading up to an Orbea, sold me his almost new Roubaix. I had forgoten how much I like the speed of road riding.

hey yall...i'm new to the forums..though i've been kinda poking around as a guest...really liking the Clyde thread. =)
i'm definitely a clyde... 23, 6'3 255 ...build is like a linebacker who stopped playing football (ie a bit soggy around the midsection) high muscle mass in my thighs and upper body. Years of basketball and road running have me in for something less impact. used to ride alot when i was a kid up until i turned 15 and could start driving..
i work 4 miles from work, fairly hilly... i seriously woke up one day and 'eureeka!!' i'm going to buy a bike and bike to work. also i live by the Pac Coast Hwy...though it would be a good idea to ride on the weekends.
i'm young, recent college grad, got a good job but not trying to break the bank for a good bike. until a couple weeks ago i didnt know a derailleur from a...from a...well i didn't know crap about bikes. hours of research later, i'm starting to get it.
anyway, i've been to my LBS(lingo ha!) and dude there suggested an OCR1 or the Specialized Tricross( i like the versatility of that)... the Seqouia.. or Also looking at a trek 1000, 1200 or the pilot 1.0/1.2...so thats my shortlist...as you can tell my price point is around a grand, much more than and i think my girl will break up with me =)

I'm definately a clydesdale! 6'1" 250. I was under 245 last year.. but I slacked bigtime last year with riding and gained back some weight! I'm working overtime now.. spinning 1-2 times a week at the Y to get my legs back and shed that gut!

I have an '04 Felt 65. Off the top of my head.. I'm going to say it's a 60. I haven't had it out since the fall though.

Us Clydesdale folk shold NEVER wear spandex or any tight roadie jerseys!!! So please don't even discuss it.

I'm a clydesdale as well - 5'11" and 225lbs. Down from 270....

I have two non-descript XL REI jerseys, as well as one pair of Performance basic black XL shorts that are in fine shape but too big for me. Free to anyone willing to pay postage. The jerseys should easily fit someone with 48" chest (REI's XL seems to be more like XXL), and the shorts should fit 38"-40" waists.

All items are used, but freshly laundered and in good shape. Figure no more than $8 for shipping, depending on where you live.

This bike is pretty light, but also pretty tough. I did like the old wheels better from a acceletarion and weight perspective, but they had high speed oscillation problems, along with rim separation at just over 1,000mi. These new wheels are actually faster, although they don't feel like it...instead of the manic panic that I had with teh old wheels, these take my weight so well that they are just smooth and stable. Sadly they weight a freaking ton though....fortunately that doesn't seem to make it any harder to get up 3 flights of stairs, so it's all good

5'8", 240 lbs checkin in at age 41....longtime bodybuilder. I'm not sloppy fat - probably around 16% bodyfat. Started riding 12 yrs ago at 205 and got down to 185 doing about 120 miles/week; went into IT, stopped riding and ballooned to 240. 2 months ago started training for triathlons as a weight loss measure and I hope to be 220 by year end and 205 by 2008.
I ride a 10 year old custom BREW Reynolds 731OS tubing, 8 speed Dura-Ace, Ksyrium Elite wheels. Socking money away for a Felt F2C or Merlin Extralight frame. I'd like to ride 2,500 miles this year and 5,000 the next.
I like Performance Elite Bib Shorts but I haven't found good jerseys for short stocky people. Castelli was very tight in XL. Canari XXL was too long.

I used to have a matching track bike just like it but I sold it.

At 1,500 cals you should be dropping weight. That's a near starvation diet for someone 220 lbs. 10 cals per lb or 2,200 cals per day would be a more typical intake while dieting.

Starvation??? I feel better than I have felt in years. I now weigh 197 pounds and my riding has NEVER been at the level that it is right now. I feel and look healthier. Everyone comments on how young I look now.
