6'4" 265lbs. The bike is a Rivendell Redwood 65cm. I paid $1350 for this bike a couple of years ago. I wish I had bought three. Fit me right out of the box like a custom built bike. I changed the brake levers to cane creeks to accomadate my large hands, other than that, every thing else is stock(except the fenders.)

This is my 62cm Surly Long Haul Trucker. A great rain/commuter/touring bike.

just realised I no longer fall in this category as I lost loads of muscle riding

I miss it but I can always get back in the gym and build it back up - should be easier to get cut. when my training partners complain about doing 40 minutes on the stationary bike I'll be like "40 minutes? dude I do 2 hours on the bike every day!"

I had my gall bladder out on Saturday, so I lost a few ounces. I don't think that will change my clydesdale status and it will keep me off of the bikes (and spinners) for a few weeks. I hope to be biking when Spring hits.

at 6' 3" and 222 lbs of love I guess I qualify...ride a Specialized S-Works E5...all that weight saved on the bike for some unknown reason. GOAL = 200 by the end of summer.

Are there any saddles under 250gm that are especially popular with this group? I hate having to buy a saddle and ride it for a month to find out if its comfy or not. I have a Turbomatic 3 which I'm not overly crazy about.

Not sure of the weight but I have been a big fan of the middle of the line (not S-Works) Specialized Seat...nice padding in its got the erection saver cut in it.

I have it on all 3 of my bikes and have been riding with it for 7 years on my Mountain Bike...takes about 100 miles to break it in but a great seat.

True advice though is go to a specialty shop bring your bike and test ride their seats... w/o break in and all you will get a good feel for what will work. Most good shops will do this free of charge for you and let you take it for a nice 15-20 minute cruise. Good luck and let us know what you end up with...

6'2", 270 lbs. Gues that makes me a extra Clydesdale if some of these guys are calling themselves clydedales at 200 lbs! Here's my ride. So far I've put about 300 miles on it and my tonnage has not damaged it yet. (and yes, before you post anything, the picture was taken when brand new before any adjustments were made.)

I'm 6"4, 270, but not all fat (well, some). I've been riding a Felt F55, but swapped out some stuff-- the breaks-- cuz the ones that come with it suck, especially if you weigh 270, the stem (ST-22 swapped for a Salsa), the handlebar (Something much wider), and the wheels-- I'm riding on Mavic CXP-33s, which have done the trick for about a year now w/out problem.

5' 5" 235 - I ride a cannondale road and an old Klein mtn frame. I have been into bikes for a long time. I am down from 276 lbs since 11/05. No offense, but I hope to be WELL under the C-dale category by summer.

PS. For those of you thinking Damn....5'5" and 276. Yes you read it right, but even then I could ride several miles with no problems.

6' 222 lbs. and about to pick up a Etape to help get me back to a svelt 200. With my frame, getting under 200 is very, very hard. Funny thing is that everyone guesses my weight at 190. I wish.

My bike came with Mavic CXP33's and lasted only one season. Rear wheel really. I was at 220 and worked my way down to 205 that year. Replaced with Bontrager Selects last year and have not touched.

    6'3" and 215 lbs.

I ride a Specialized Tarmac, gotta love CF.

I'm trying to get to 201 lbs, I don't want to lose the Clydesdale status, plus I'd look really goofy, OK goofier than I already do if i get too thin.
Shall we shag now, or shall we shag later? How do you like to do it? Do you like to wash up first? You know, top and tails... #$%^@'s bath? Personally, before I'm on the job, I like to give my undercarriage a bit of a 'how's your father'!

Good luck! If you want to read a great true story about a really out of shape and overweight big guy that lost a ton of weight cycling, get the book "Heft On Wheels" by Mike Magnuson. I read it, and it's a great book. (and I weigh about the same as Mike did when he started cycling...)

This is my first post here as I am ready to buy my road bike in just a few days (been riding an old MTB for a little while now). I used to be bigtime into road biking, but that's been nearly 20 years ago. After struggling with a treadmill for a long time, I feel like I've rediscovered an old friend with my return to biking. I'm one of the most out of shape I've read about here, at 5' 6" and 245 lbs. I'm very worried about my heft breaking parts, but feel a little better after reading the great posts here. I will likely be buying the GIANT OCR3. Am I just asking for more ridicule to be a big guy riding a bike with "GIANT" in big letters on the side?
It's taken me awhile just to get up the nerve to actually walk in to a bike shop at my current level of fitness (or lack thereof).
Does anyone have a better recommendation for a Clydesdale bike for around $600? I figure I'll probably trash my first bike with my weight and reward myself with a really nice bike once I've trimmed way down.

    Brad,

I weighed 365 (6 feet tall) when I bought my Giant Sedona DX, and nobody has yet openly ridiculed me. I also am looking at upgrading to an OCR later this year, although my current thought is to step up a level and buy the OCR 2 if they will outfit it with the OCR3 wheels for strength... I like the component mix on the OCR2 better, except for those wimpy looking wheels. I think I can get them to do it, because an OCR3 with the OCR2 wheels I would leave with them would probably be able to be sold for a premium.

But, if I lose another 50 pounds before buying (and get down to your weight), then perhaps I might be able to get myself to keep the OCR2 wheels...

Brad - I'm 6'2", 270# and I ride an OCR3. It's been a great bike. I've put about 300 miles on it and haven't managed to break it yet. Wheels are still true, no creaks - you won't regret getting one. When you buy it, try to get the shop to give you a deal on getting it upgraded to clipless pedals. My shop threw in Shimano SPD's for like $10.
