Like I stated in my introduction to the cyldale thread. I have always been a Powerlifter. Now, I am looking to slim down. I am hoping this journey will help me. I have looked over this thread with great atonishment and I must say there are just about more dedicated people on here than in the regular fitness forums I am used to.

The last two photos were taken during Christmas of 2007. I just had shoulder surgery at the first of march. I will make this my starting point.

Wow, looking through all the pages on this thread is great. I dont have any pics to share yet, but at my heaviest I was a little over 300lbs, and I have got down to 260 lbs. I am keeping the reduced caloric intake until I get to 220 lbs (doctor suggested weight) so I am half way there. At least I can ride in the drops without kneeing myself in the spare tire now. If my goals are good and I stick with it I will have an after picture at the end of this summer.

The first set of pictures were taken about a year ago when I was a few pounds shy of my heaviest weight. I was never much of a Clyde (I'm only 5'6 & don't have a large frame), but after a year of serious depression and far too many hours in front of the computer, I managed to get up to 206lbs.

The second set of pictures were taken today at 142lbs. There's no big secret to my weight loss: I ate anywhere from 1800-2000 calories per day & cycled 4-5 times per week until January when I started weight training & running instead (3 days each per week).

Like many people here, I use FitDay religiously, and in addition I am lucky to have a very supportive fiance who was willing to change her diet along with mine, which meant that we stopped keeping junk food in the house (white bread/crackers, chips, candy, dips, and so on), & we started cooking/preparing all our own meals. As a happy byproduct of all this, she also lost 25lbs without really trying. Good habits tend to cluster and for better or worse people tend to adopt the habits of those they live with.

As a side note, I've been reading the Clyde forums for some time, and while I very rarely post, this forum and this thread have been a big source of inspiration for me. I've been wanting post in this thread since more than a year ago when I found it, so here it is. Hard work pays off, I guess. :)

Don't think I've posted to this thread so here ya'all go:

I started riding in August of 2006 at about 320 lbs. My doctor told me my blood pressure was borderline unhealthy. I have never throughout my life ever had high blood pressure. So I got mad, and started riding again.

Currently I am between 255-260 and holding (unfortunately). Blood pressure is fine again and my cardiovascular system is in excellent shape.

Gonna Beat Diabetes
 
I was didagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in
March. I am going to use this diagnosis as a catapault to better health. I am currently 305 llbs and I have a goal of 220. I just purchased a Felt Road Bike. It was an expensive purchase for us . My wife says that if I dont ride it she will throw it away. Thats motivation.

down 18 lbs from when i started riding in the fall...not shabby. Most recently I've made my most progress of just spreading out the meals, reducing the carb intake on day I don't ride and increasing the fiber and water. No pics of myself...but I'll remember the camera tomorrow.

Felts are nice bikes, enjoy it

No problem. I will introduce myself later once I buy a bike. I arrived at the idea of riding a bike to school everyday would be a good idea to lose weight and get healthy. I am not sure if 15 miles round trip will do the trick, but we will see. I plan on buying a bike as soon as the check from school comes in about 3-4 weeks. See you all then...

Ahmen to that! I've been through this thread at least 3 times already, and it's just awesome to see the pictures. I'm in the best shape of my life, and I've got lots more weight to lose and muscle to gain. Yeppie!

So, I've posted here before, but thought I was due to post another update. The first pic is me today, sitting right about 230. The second is me last summer, July-ish, at about 280. I'm halfway down to my ideal weight, and I'm about 30 pounds from my mid-summer (end of July) goal.

This thread and all of your stories is such an encouragement.

It CAN be done, people ARE doing it! Even if life gets in the way, then keep on eating responsibly, make time for activity as if your life depended on it, because it DOES, but above all GET UP AND MOVE!

Thanks for bumping this thread! I have allowed myself to slip back up over 200lbs. :(
My doctor back in 2006 had set a goal for me of 175lbs. I got as close as 184lbs.
Today, I'm back up to 205lbs. So, here are my before and after pics:

Day 1 was July 23rd of 07. That's about 95 pounds of weight loss. I lost over a 100 but didnt have pics from the very beginning.

Day 200 was about 2-3 months ago. I stopped trying to loose weight at 210 but I'm now at 200-203 lbs depending on the day.

BTW, folks, I've ridden with this fellow, and if he hadn't told me he'd lost a hundred pounds, I never would have guessed it.

Sandra, take pics! Keep them to yourself if you are not comfortable with posting them publicly. I found over time that often when I would stall, I could actually see body composition changes in photographs. I think the photos are a valuable tool! Additionally, you will have some great before and after pics to share with everyone when you reach your goal! :D

+1! I've found that it is easy to get frustrated when the scale doesn't make any significant change for a while. But, pictures prove that I'm trading muscle mass for fat (slowly, but noticeable) and it helps the frustration and helps me to stay on track!

Today is the day that change begins. I recently bought a scale as i knew I needed to lose weight and thought it would be a good idea to have one through the process. When I stepped on tonight and it read 309, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I was only 290 last summer, so in less than a year, I've put on 20 pounds. Granted, I've been studying for the CPA exam this past semester and haven't worked out hardly at all. But now I've graduated from the University of Illinois and as of May 30th I will have taken all 4 parts of the CPA. No more excuses allowed. I've created a blog on which I'm going to chronicle my journey and I hope that over time, it can help someone else who's currently in my shoes realize that they can do it too. My before pics are posted there and you're all more than welcome to follow it if you'd like @ http://bigbikerjourney.blogspot.com. I'll be back with after pics in a while. My immediate goal is 280. Eventually, I'd like to be down near the 200 mark. All of you have shown this is possible and I look forward to the journey.
