I said I'd post some progress pics, so here are the best I could scrape together. I don't have any shots of me at my heaviest, 304.5. You might understand why. The earliest one in my weight loss journey that I have is from November of '05, which, according to my log, was about 288:

Here I am making a toast at my wedding in May of '06 - 285 pounds:

March of '09, in front of a recently completed woodworking project, at about 255:

Another update, taken July 17, at 234:

Another Update

So since I last posted I'm down another 10 lbs. I'm now at 224 lbs. Still heavy for a short guy but I'm really, really motivated to be down under 200 by the end of September, and into the 170 range by Christmas. I just really enjoy the energy I have. I now enjoy being up and about, playing with my kids, saying yes to walks with my wife. These little things might sound trivial to some but when you're way overweight, they are things that you struggle with because your body tells you you're tired and achy. No more achy. Thank goodness!

I like this one year photo. Those pants are 8x and they barely fit last year....

As repayment for the generous support (and massive quantities of sports drink) provided by The Historian during my century ride this past weekend, I have promised to post "Before" and "During" photos to this thread. I say "Before & During" because I am not done yet. I'm kind of glad I'm doing this, too. Just looking at the before pictures again reminds me of how unbelievably far I've come:

These were at my heaviest weight - 425 pounds. These were taken in the Fall of 2008. I didn't actually start my diet & exercise program until October 2009, but I was the same weight when I started.

Here is a shot from my first 5k race. This was taken in March of 2010 - about 5 months into my journey. At that point, I was down to about 359 pounds. (a loss of 66 pounds)

And finally, (for now), here are some shots from our century ride this past weekend. About 9 1/2 months of work, and down to 310 pounds. (total loss of 115 pounds since starting mid-October 2009)

That is fantastic work, Sayre. I also enjoyed reading the "impromptu century" thread. Keep up the good work. Since you were pictured next to Joe in that first shot, I can only assume that's ice cream from the Creamery in the third pic. I only know this because my MIL lives in State College.

This morning's weigh-in had me at 230 (down from 231.5 last week), so next week I'll almost certainly be into the 220s, even if that's only 229.5. The 220s are something I haven't seen since about 30 years ago.

That is, in fact, the infamous Penn State Creamery. The burger is one of the challenge burgers at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield. (I looked like that and was trying to suck down a 5 pound burger AND get ice cream afterwards!) I look back now and wonder why I ever hated myself so much.

Keep up the good fight. Right now I'm so close to the 300 threshold, I can practically taste it! I can't honestly remember the last time my weight started with a 2.

Hmm, Clearfield is along my path from the Pine Creek Gorge to the Allegheny River Trail. Perhaps I should stop there for a hamburger? I'd not have to eat for the rest of vacation.

Sounds like Bub's Burgers and Ice Cream, a tasty little joint in Carmel, IN, right alongside the Monon Trail I ride so much. Any time after 11:00 AM it's almost torturous to ride past there. The smells alone are fully capable of making a bicycle turn around on its own and finding its way into their parking lot. I deliberately refuse to carry a lock on those rides so I won't be tempted to let the bike have its way.

Man the creamery. I'm in state college this summer and somehow I've only been there twice. The best frozen yogurt EVER (I don't eat ice cream anymore, I gave it up at the height of my weight.)

I might go back one more time before I leave...

Great job so far though man, that a lot of weight in a short amount of time!

So I started my weight loss journey back in Jan of 2009 when I got the flu. I went a week without eating and lost some weight and thought I should keep this up (the losing weight part). Lent came around and I decided I'd stop eating out and actually did it and I lost some more weight. It wasn't until May of 2009 that my wife and I really kicked it up a notch and decided to make a lifestyle change. She joined Weight Watchers and we have stuck with it since.

Here are some pics

Here I am around 400 pounds. It's my drivers license picture:

Here's another picture around the 400 pound mark

My wife and I in August of 2009 at my niece's wedding

My wife and I at a Trek Store Group Ride for Breast Cancer in October of 2009

My wife and I at Mother's Day lunch this year

My wife and I at the Tour de Cure ride this year

After our first 10k race this year at the Peachtree Road Race on July 4th

My official starting weight was 370 pounds. I was 219 this morning. I've lost 151 pounds so far. 19 more to go.

AMAZING!!! Thank you for sharing them. This thread is such an inspiration. Your wife and you look so much younger and look like completely different people. You must be so proud of your accomplishments.

QUESTION: Is your wife on this site too?

Thanks man. I was at Fairchild for a while, I miss the weather up there. The chin fur was my "out of the military" present to myself.
