Just wanna thank all posters in this thread. It inspired me last October to start biking for a bit of fitness & to try lose some weight. Well I've now lost 43 pounds without really trying to change my diet, but still have 18 lbs to go to hit my target of 170 pounds.

Thanks again to all & never stop climbing on that bike everyday!!

I'm not sure how much you'll be able to tell from the "after" picture because it's kind of a head shot, but there's about 35 lbs difference here. That's me on the far left about a year ago, and then me by myself after 6 weeks of a vegan diet and a lot of exercise bike, treadmill and elliptical. The actual bike riding has come since and has helped a lot too.

I weighed in at 300lbs (136.08kg), when I visited the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville. 8/02/10

293lbs (133.18kgs). Me at Mount St. Helens. 8/11/2010

Me at 282lbs (127.91kg), with the new bike. 8/27/10

That's down 21lbs (9.53kg) from July 22nd.

Goal is 185lbs (83.91kg).

I just bought my bike yesterday and even though I haven't read this entire thread yet I'd like to say thank you to all of you who have posted your before/after pics and told your stories...it is truly inspiring.
I am a 42 yr old male who has always been overweight...I made the change from a mfg plant to a desk job 9 years ago and I've gained a lot of weight, my knees pop easily, I get winded with just a few stairs and I find it difficult to get up and down.
I have a beautiful 4 yr old daughter who I desperately want to be able to "keep up with" and that has led me to cycling as a means to get fit.
I went to a local shop who had a good used KHS comfort bike but it just didnt seem "right" to me...too stiff...based on my opinions of that bike, they steered me toward a mountain bike and I placed my order.
I picked up my KHS Alite 100 yesterday and rode it around in front of the house for a a while last night while my daughter rode her Barbie car(running me off the road a couple times in the process!). I can only pedal about 10 times before I have to coast but I did that off/on for about an hour last night and I woke up 5 lbs lighter this morning!
Yesterday morning - 367
Today - 362
I know that may not be a real indicator but anyway, I am totally excited about riding this bike!

I'm new! Down to 270 from 350. Sporadic dieting along with some weight lifting, jogging, yoga and a ton of cycling. I'm sure if be closer to my goal weight if I kept my eating in check. Time to get with the program

Checking in again. Down to 215. I think I was at 220 at the time of my last post. I was 257.8 at my highest....at 5'4". Still have a ways to go but am riding somewhere between 125 and 150 miles a week and have started putting miles in running as well. I'm REALLY excited to see where I'll be come the beginning of the triathlon season next year. Sky's the limit!

Instead of "Before and After", let's call it "Near the Start and Now".

September 2009 -- had just started riding; was in my first organized big-group ride.

September 2010 -- along the C&O trail.

See all that gear in the 2nd picture -- the tent, the sleeping bag, the front and rear panniers? In a year, I lost that much weight and more.

Nice! I had a moment like that myself when I realized that even with my trike fully loaded AND the trailer in tow, it's still less than I weighed when I was getting started.

Not to quibble, jeneralist, but that's Meyersdale train station, and it's on the GAP, not the C & O.

Brava! Brava for your loss!

Hi all, this thread is sooo inspiring. As to my story...I bought a bike last year during yet another attempt to loose weight. I rode pretty regularly for about a month then let excuses derail me. Then in December, I weighted 272, I set out to loose weight again. I canged my diet and added in exercise with a personal trainer. This got me off to a great start and I currently weight 232. I recently stopped going to the personal trainer for financial reasons and want to continue getting fit...that brings me here. I would love to be able to be one of these sucess stories!

Great, great job!

BTW, how do you like your Z5? One of our local dealers has a 2010 Z5 in my size on clearance for $1700, and a 2010 Z6 for $1370. They're very tempting, especially since I promised myself a new road bike when I get under 200 lbs. Not that they'll still be around by then (November, +/-), but I can always talk myself into buying it sooner.

Approaching 25% weight loss

Below is the old orginal before and after from 2 years ago.

This is a last year vs this year, same kit, same race, even same straightaway. About 240 last year, between 225 and 230 this year, and weighed in tonight at 218.

Started July of '07 at 285.

diff..jpg

I said three years ago I would consider a full carbon bike when the weight I could take off the bike was greater than the weight I could take off the rider. Saving my pennies now.
