Well, there is no secret just hard work. I cut out all the junk food and started ridding a lot. Believe it or not I did eat well during my weight loss and still lost the weight. I eat a whole grain bagel for breakast with my usual cup of coffee, then for lunch I have 4 slices of turkey or chicken (skinless) lettuce and mustard on a tomato wrap. Through the day I eat 3 bananas and three of another fruit like apples pears and the like. Then for dinner I eat whatever my wife makes but only one serving and a normal size serving thats all. Nothing to eat after dinner except for a piece of fruit, then a 8-10 mile bike ride. I ride 8-10 mile every night and 40-50 on the weekend. Thats all I did and I feel like a new man. I want to drop 25 more pounds and that will be my target weight.

Good luck to all of you who are trying and I hope you reach your goal DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!!

Wow! Many inspiring posts here! I do not have many before/after pics.. My journey started a few years ago at ~250 pounds... in two years I managed to get down to just under 200 pounds (Cycling playing a big part).. A death in the family and having to deal with that (minor depression plus many trips back and forth while she succumbed to cancer) saw me put 34 of those pounds back on... I've just moved to Chicago from Melbourne, Australia and really need to get rid of them and get down to my healthy weight while I still can (High cholesterol and heart problems is in my genes)..

Currently doing 60+km of commuting plus trying to fit in 60+km on the weekend both on the dirt and asphalt... Eating less junk (and YES smaller portions... portions here in the USA are HUGE!).. Beer and wine are my biggest weakness.. nothing beats a beer after a shocker at work...

Originally I cycled to lose weight.. now I lose weight to cycle!! (not looking forward to winter though!)

Good luck to you reaching your goal...... I dropped 105 lbs so far and still want to drop another 25 lbs. You can do it just keep at it and don't give up. Feel free to PM me if you need someone to keep you going if you start feeling down. This goes for anyone else here who needs a lift or pep talk.

Hey all, this is a truly inspirational thread.
I've been really pumped now to do this myself, wanted to lose weight for a long time and now im gonna do it.
The most boring part of this is that winter is coming here now, but im not gonna let it stop me.

Me today:
Age: 32
Height: 6.1 (186cm)
Weight: 277 (126kg)

My first target will be: 220 (100kg)
I have not yet set a timeframe for this but with some hard work maybe i can get there by my 33 birthday in july 2011.

Don't really have a very good before picture, but here's me completing a 4.1 mile run/walk September 26, one week after my 40th birthday and 70 lbs lighter than when I started this journey in March.

One of the proudest moments of my life!

Edit: Here's one of me in July, 2009, but I'm not sure if I was lighter or heavier than I was in March when I started this...

Saw this amazing thread back in September and inspired me to bike a little harder! Thanks to all for the inspiration and great work everybody.

Basics: Biked a lot in HS without realizing how much energy I was burning. In 1992-93 (senior year) I was biking and running track and only 165lbs.
Interest dwindled after 2nd bike accident in 1992 and by 1998 i think the bike was parked except for the 2 times i moved.
Late spring/early summer 2010 i hit my peak of 293lbs.

Brought the bike out of the shed back in June 2010 because it was getting difficult to keep up with my 6yo and 4yo on their bikes as they were getting faster and I didn't feel like running. WOW, I had forgotten until then how much I loved biking and couldn't believe I had just given it up. Now I'm hooked and I've lost at least 22lbs as I'm down to 271 at last check 5 days ago.

the pics are from almost 2 yrs ago, somewhere around 285-290lbs

Good work, $pecial. Keep it up, and ditch the horizontal stripes while you are at it. Not a flattering look. :-)

I started early last winter a weight loss program to get myself down from my disgusting 308 pounds. I never had a weight problem until I was in my 50's but as the decade went on the weight piled up. I retired a couple of years ago and it just got totally out of control. I started a diet in February and walked as much as I could. By 4 months later (May) I had gotten down into the mid-200's and started biking. I bike a lot now and despite having added significant leg muscle, I'm at 205. My waist went from 53 inches to 35 and shirt size from getting ready to have to transition from a 2XL to a 3XL down to a L.

I kept a photographic record. Here's a back view from March and earlier this month (Nov).

I'm not on a "diet" any more though I will watch what I eat for the rest of my life, and drink because it was a weakness for beer that put a lot of it on in the first place. I'm still losing weight but much more slowly which is cool but I still need another 20-25 pounds off. I live in Florida and will be able to continue biking all year. Though it doesn't get frigid here, or for more than a day or two anyway but the wind just blows for weeks, hard.

Thanks though by my calculations (I was an engineer before I retired), with all the beer that I gave up over the year at 150 calories per, I should now weigh negative 78 pounds. ;-)

Fantastic everyone. I started following Weight Watchers(on my own) on September 28, 2010 at 226#, today I'm at 205#. My goal is to lose a total of 55# by my 55th birthday on April 30, 2011. So 21# down, 34# to go.

I went on one of those 14 day diets not too long ago, and sure enough......after finishing it, I had lost exactly 2 weeks......

I am just returning to riding after an 18 year hiatus due to being in a wheel chair. I have learned to walk again, and I am riding some. But I am not crazy about these new SPD pedals. I keep getting my feet hung in them......

Outstanding for relearning to walk and getting back on a bike!

About the pedals... I have never liked them. I use platforms, and if I really want something more, I use straps and platforms. I dont know how you are getting hung up, but straps may be a viable alternative

Wow what a great thread. Guys and Gals you did great. Keep it up. Me back in March of 2010 I was 303 pounds and due to a trip to the Emergency room found out I had diabetes type II. I went home from the hospital with the decision I was going to change. A month later just eating right was taken off insullin. In June of 2010 I pulled my Old Trek Mountain Bike 820 from the rafters in the garage. Today I have over 1200 miles on my bike and now at a health club due to weather being so cold here in Minnesota. Today I am 225 pounds and feel great. Don't have many pics especially with today's weight but you get the idea. The last pic that was taken was during a bike ride on a trail that had a pie shop in between. Hard to turn down pie sometimes especially from a place that is known all over the upper Midwest. The latest pics are in September and I have lost about ten more pounds since the pic for a total of about 75.

In the 400's I think my highest was about 425.

Now at 288, diet and riding.
Looking towards that 225 range again!
