WOW, this is a great thread. My heaviest was 280lbs. I am now 260. I have a picture at home and will need to upload when I dig it up. I have been riding about 500 miles per year doing most trails with my mountain bike. I have been taking the slow and steady approach to weight loss. The first year I fell 10 lbs, then I put the weight back on in winter. Last year I lost 20 lbs and have been keeping it off. I just purchased a road bike and decided to step up my game to do 1,000 miles. Will keep you posted on how my year/rides go.

Thanks for all the inspiration,
John S

Hi Tom, I'm a friend of Siu Blue, sorry to hear of your recent health troubles, hope things work out. I will post some pics as soon as I find some old ones (i'm sure Siu has some from past events we've attended), but I have dropped 49 pounds in the last few months on a complete shift in lifestyle, from 256 to 207 tonight and I'm 43. Look forwards to hanging out on this forum more thanks.

I'll post a now pic soon. I am currently 322lbs. Since I was 18 (I am 31 as of this past Friday) my weight has fluctuated quite a bit - at my best I was around 235, at my worst 340ish. I have a current long term goal of dropping 100lbs, and seeing all of the great successes you all have had reaffirms the idea that it is possible. I'll post progress pics over time, and am looking forward to interacting with everyone here on this great forum.

Had lost 70+ pounds after years of being heavy, kept it off for three years, but have put back on 15lbs after dealing with a couple of injuries. Hoping to get back to where I was (150 - 155lb) by the end of the summer, and add a bit more muscle. Back to eating pretty clean, and trying to focus more on balancing out my protein needs as a vegetarian. Also trying to ease back into being active.

Making progress Starting 439 (in the second picture I am just under 400) First is now about a month ago, I am almost under 300. Four years of agonizing physical setbacks and a year after a car accident, still not a 100% Going to an MRI today to find out why my back is trashed. (l5 disk)

Great job on losing that first 100+ pounds!!! As you continue you will get a lot of support here in CD&A. Welcome, and we're already proud of you. I hope your MRI shows something positive - -

I used to be 300+ pounds, riding a motorcycle. Now I'm about 215 racing a bicycle. I was as low as 200 for a while, but ... stupid beer.

I do not believe there is such a thing as stupid beer. Congrats on the weight loss!

dkmtr,
Who are you asking?
FWIW: I was doing about 500 miles per year. In Wisconsin that means 100 miles per month during the warmer months. Now I added training at the gym on a spinner. In 2014 I have 450+ miles on a spinner in the last three months and have a goal of doing 1,000 miles on my cycles this summer.

Regards,
John S

It leaves cravings in there, but I am not being 100% strict with it either. I break it every now and then, portions are not exact to the ones indicated and I usually eat more than told to. However I will start the really strict part next week for 2 weeks. I can hopefully lose 5 more pounds and be race ready for february.

The nutritionist gave me a booklet of about 30-40 pages full of recipes, formulas, daily examples and explanations. I read some but it takes time adapting to it. She gave me a breakdown of I believe 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% fat something like that. 2,100 to 2,300 cals a day that considering I workout 12-14hrs a week.

Take in mind the diet is meant for someone who is looking to have 5% body fat. I think I am right below 10% but for race day I'd like to be at around 7-8%.

I'll post a few more pics in a bit. I do get the "YOU LOOK SICK!" comment tons of times. I understand I kind of do but I do it to race. I won't stay like that forever because I think it is probably as unhealthy as being overweight. I do feel strong and fast though

Doesn't help that it looks like I am on meth... I am not btw.

Man, you do look SICK, as in F***ing AWESOME!! Very inspiring! It also gives me some hope that I can get somewhere close to that one day. I would be damn happy to get down to 10% BF.

(BTW does anyone use "Sick" in a positive way anymore? Or has that faded from fashion as a term? )

I don't recall posting a before. I'm still working on it. My heaviest was 289. Yesterday I was 226.2.
First pic is December 2011:

Earlier that fall:

Oct. 2013 2nd cx race.

Last one 4-20 same pose, different bike. The changes are subtle.

Let's call this "before & during"....
I started putting on weight around age 6 after having my tonsils out & have struggled all through my life. I've had success losing 70-125 lbs but couldn't keep it off. Last year, shortly after my 54th birthday I realized I don't have much more time to get this right. Lost my dad 13 yrs ago to congestive heart failure & my mom two years ago of the same.
I didn't tell anybody what I was doing. Jan 2013 I just started eating a lot better & walking. Two months in, I got a treadmill. My weight was dropping slowly. June 2013 I started lifting weights & July 2013 I got a cheapo MTB at wally world. I alternated weights & biking.
Jan 2013 my weight was 330lbs (5lbs short of my lifetime high). The photo on the left was taken in March 2013 at 312lbs. The photo on the right was taken 10/13 at 240lbs. I am currently at 221. Winters are hard for me, I have some female issues going on, I have hypothyroidism, blah, blah, blah. I keep losing/gaining the same 4lbs but now that I can get out & bike again I am confident this will help.
I still have a long way to go to reach a "normal" weight but I'm pressing on & not going to give up!

This thread is a freaking inspiration! Keep up the good work . Just today I quit my desk job and I think I will be pursuing a career trying to help others be healthy and get in shape! It is something that is fun to do and double whammy if I get to help others. Keep it coming boyz and gals!

Pic from Yesterday's race. I am up 10 pounds since my peak but healthy still and actually riding a bit better. I was crossing that fine line between anemic and fit, weight wise

Left: March 2013, at 280 lbs. Right: March 2014, at 235 lbs. I'm since down to 230 and hoping to drop a bunch more with the warmer weather and more cycling opportunity. Combination of Weight Watchers, the bike, and a workout game called EA Sports Active 2. My goal is to be around 200 by this fall, and after that any extra is a bonus.

This one is in September 2013 at the Cystic Fibrosis Cycle for Life, my first big organized ride (32-mile session through Brooklyn, NY). Somewhere around 240-250 here

You're all huge inspirations; looking at some of your stories and results is great motivation to keep it going!
