NOTE: There was a post on the Clydesdale Jersey thread of a different image (a Poco cover) Check that out too.
Ha! I like it.

I'd love to see that image on the back, with a clydesdale head on the front (as if it were coming straight at you).

I'm not an artist (nor do I play one on television)...but I used MS Powerpoint & Paint to throw together three designs. It would be fairly easy to add "Clydesdale Crossing" to any of these.

I just did a Google search of "clydesdale" and clicked on "images" above the text entry. One thing I noticed is that ALL the photos displayed the characteristic prominent hooves. I hope whatever image gets used has that feature because it I think it conveys "Clydesdale" to everyone immediately - maybe even without the word.

I found a sign company that actually makes a Clydedale Xing yellow diamond sign:

This is a budweiser pin from the 2002 winter olympics. Something in this style could also work well.

If you search Google Images you'll see lots of Clydesdales. They're almost all standing still in characteristic Clydesdale poses like these:

I found a couple under saddle in motion, so you can see how the hooves move:

I think the beefy, muscular, standing profile is most recognizable, therefore best for a sign or a jersey.

While I'm not a horse person, my girlfriend grew up breaking and showing horses. My understanding is that draft horses just don't gallop. Not something they do... not something they're designed for.

[Background]There was an extensive thread or two on possible designs. The consensus (and I agree) is that the jersey shouldn't be Clydesdale = big but slow, especially since some of us (not I - but others!) can kick some serious 120# cf spandex roadie ass

Having a static or barely moving horse would only reinforce the idea that Clydesdales are big, slow, strong, lumbering and seemingly lazy when compared to the smaller and faster "thoroughbreds". Not something I'd be proud wearing unless it was true...which at least for me is not.

If that means bending the publicly accepted norm of what a Clydesdale horse is then so be it - don't we?

"There is a reason they call us draft horses."

Basic white jersey.

(I'd love to hear feedback.)

My guiding principals from old discussions were:
  • nothing fat (cause there are a bunch of fit 200+ pounders)
  • nothing too risque
  • nothing too colorful
  • something subtle
  • something clever

What I did for the picture was take a regular horse and "beef" him up to be a clyde. (Bigger hooves, more mass on legs/head/neck/underside/etc)
with all the aforementioned issues, I humbly submit the most recent version. (I just took the artwork from bear and blackened it to match the road sign guidelines.)

Anybody have comments/thoughts on:
text on front/back
both/neither
and image...?

Also, with the bottom sign "Clydesdale Ahead" the "There is a reason they call us draft horses" text becomes redundant (but damn I like that line...)

thoughts?

Small point, but I'd rather "There's a reason they call us draft horses" vs "There is a..."

I like! I say sign with "Clydesdale Ahead" on front with "There's a reason..." on the bike with a bikeforums address.

The draft horse line could be inserted under a "ground line" the sign is embedded in!

Okay, I am in a weird mood, how about a clysdesdale head on the front, and a horses rear on the back, with tail, and it then says above Clydesdale and below Ahead....

There are other monikers too, like "You don't need to be a racing car to have a big ENGINE". You could use a bike with a big motor vehicle engine on the saddle, wheels spinning, for the automotive worshipers who will definitely not get it.... Blue for the clydesdales, pink for the Athenas....

Outside of the Clyde/Athena range, just about anything bike related, or how about a plain jersey with a retro-reflective stripe at the shoulder and waist, with an X pattern on the back, available in lime yellow day-glo orange, and retina fusing hot pink! The thing is, it wouldn't be made in Clyde sizes...

I've been trying to think of a way to play off of the old phrase "horses sweat, men perspire, and women glisten." There's no doubt that when I'm riding I sweat. Reason #27 of how I know I'm a Clydesdale.

Hey, we all love biking; we're all proud to be Clydes, regardless of shape, size or speed; and we all like the Clydes-lead-the-way motif. I think Hambone has found the design center. I say go for it!

Naw, if ya want to go faster, you need to ride ahead of a pack of starving wolves with a jersey composed of pork chops and steaks! (Meat, not pictures of meat!)

I absolutely guarantee you'll pass a Ferrari!

The Road forum has been using this company...

https://www.champ-sys.com/pages/index.htm

They have sizes from XS (38 chest for a club cut jersey), all they way up to a XXXL (51" chest). There is, however, a minimum of 10 items of the same style.

They look great, and so are the prices. But their credit card order form has a clause that says they keep the artwork & rights to resell the uniform design. Is that typical of custom clothing makers?
