Hello im looking to get a bike and have been doing some research ..looking for some opinions ....I'm 6'5 and weigh about 380 pounds ..looking to do some paved trail riding and some commuting ..I dont feel like anything on 700 wheels would stand up very well againt my weight ...any opinions on the trek su100??and what would the benefit of the disc brake on the su200 be?..
My clyde bike isn't a Trek, but a competitor's... a Giant Sedona DX. A bike similar to what you are looking at with 26" wheels.
I weighed 365 when I bought it, and it has lasted 3 or 4 years and about 2500 miles with one broken spoke.
With that said, if I were to buy again, I would probably buy a bike with wide 700c rims. While the physics are working against durability very slightly because of longer spokes, I think the durability would be fine.
Discs tend to be for times when moisture or mud interferes with rim bakes. V brakes have worked fine for me, but do lose some braking power when wet.
