the bad part of losing weight (clothes)

so I work in a business-attire office. long sleeves year-around, suit jackets optional unless clients are visiting.

I'm 6'0 and started logging/changing food intake in November at 262 pounds. now sitting at 240 (goal is 200). the thing that really sucks is all my pants dont fit anymore--obviously not a huge surprise. my current pants are a 42, and a 40 is just a tiny bit too tight. in the meantime, if I wear my belt at the old hole, I look like a 16-year-old with his pants all slouched. if I put my belt one notch in, my pants look all stupid. grrr

I was hoping to hold out on buying new clothes until 38, but that clearly isnt gonna happen. this

we ought to start a big "pants trading club" in this forum, heh. this could get expensive if I actually make my goal.

I dropped weight so fast, I still have some of my old clothes around as a reminder, but I was a regular at Goodwill for a long time, each time a bit smaller (Every two to three weeks!) One of these days I'll post a pic holding up my Farmer John Bibs! You'll be shocked!

If you've got a Men's Wearhouse near you, you can get reasonably priced nice office clothes. Check their website for sales and such, they have a lot of price deals on pants.

/Only place I've been able to find where I can get stuff that doesn't fit strange, because they'll tailor it properly.

Congrats on the weight loss. Have you tried looking for a tailor/seamstress that can do alternations for you. There are 5 or 6 in the buffalo area that just do alterations/repairs.

Welcome to my world. I was told by a woman in my office that I have worked with for 18 years that I need to go get some new clothes so she could see my fine behind. Once she and I stopped laughing, I realized that it wasn't just me that noticed that I look like a kid wearing my dad's clothes. I guess it's a good problem to have though. Congrats on having this problem and keep it up.

Me, too. I went from a 42 to a borderline 34/36 with diet and exercise. I'd been regularly haunting the thrifts for years looking for bikes, so one day I went in to see what kind of clothes they had.

I never needed business suits, but I found plenty of Egyptian cotton dress shirts, business casual shirts, casual shirts, and blue jeans in excellent shape for cheap. Many still with commercial laundry tags in place. Nothing like getting a nice pair of 501's for $4.

I call the thrift store clothes my "dead man" collection.

I laughed my A$$ off when I read this...not that you don't have a fine behind, but it was just plain funny...thanks for the laugh and nice job on the weight loss

I have lost 50 pounds, I was at 300, and my pants were tight. Now that I have lost the weight, half of my slacks look like I am wearing clown clothes, or trying to go for that street thug look, which does not work in the office. My wife keeps telling me to get new clothes, but I want to wait until I get closer to my goal, another 40 pounds. I do have some casual clothes that fit me correctly, and on fridays when I wear these to the office I get lots of compliments and people asking me if I am working out, or when I lost the weight. I hope to hit my goal this May, then it will be a whole new office wardrobe for me, and everything else goes to goodwill or AMVETS. And more importantly some new bibs and jerseys.

I have a party to attend with my wife this weekend and I am going to Men's warehouse to get some clothes that will properly fit tonight. I have lost 61 lbs so far and this morning I offically weigh 314.2 lbs. I have not seen 315 in 5 years. So.... on my face today.

I feel the clothing pain. In six months I have gone from a size 20 in Womens to a size 2 in misses Don't get me wrong, I am loving it, but...

Not only have I had to buy a whole new wardrobe, but also all new cycling clothes. Man, clothing sure is expensive!

I sure feel your $ pain whenit comes to purchasing new clothing!

You guys (and gals) rock. I'm at 295 now, about as heavy as I've ever been. Time to change that. I'd like to get down to 240 (I am 6'3" with big, broad shoulders and large arms and legs at the best of times - I doubt I will ever stop being a Clyde, at least as long as I am breathing). And I am looking forward to having "need new clothes" problems. Hey, with all of you for role models, how can I fail?

I'm right there with you. Over the past 11 months I've lost bang on 100lbs through excerise and paying attention to what I eat. I'm hovering around 250 and would like to see another 25-35 gone by the end of March when I turn 40.

I also work in an office environment and realized quite pointedly in August of last year that I really needed to do something about my clothes when one of the girls began calling me MC Hammer because of my pants.

I went out and bought a couple of new suits which have both already been altered since and are again bordering on too large. I did a closet purge shortly before Christmas and took 4 (!) garbage bags of clothes, including 32 dress shirts, to GoodWill.

I will say that after shopping only at big & tall stores for the past 10 or so years, that it's exceptionally cool to walk into a hipster-dufus store like Old Navy and buy something more than a hat - I've lost 10 inches in my waist alone (I took a 'tale of the tape' when I started last February and have lost a cumulative 48 inches total off of my chest, middle, waist, thighs, etc) & am now in between a 38-40 pant size.

It is expensive to keep buying new clothes, but it is so worth the money......

Well, with my life I destroy clothes so even though I have dropped a lot (and still dropping) - I have to buy new clothes every six months or so anyway. My issues is that I am like some alien - 34 inche waist - but without relax fit, forget it - and then, only barely.

Thankfully, a tailor here is 2 dollars to alter clothing.

Oh man, don't I know your pain. I've dropped 10 inches from the waist in the past 18 months, and keep going down. For shirts I'm down from a 5x/6x (!!!) to a 2x/3x (I hate being in-between sizes ), and pants down from a 60-62 to the 48 or 50 (again, in between.. better than "so big it depends on the brand"). It's to the point where I buy one or two pairs of khakis and cheap polos off Ebay. Another 130lbs to go (170 down so far) and I'll be able to relax.. hahah .

Another good thing about Men's Wearhouse is that they will either do alterations for free, or very cheaply. I bought a suit from them before the summer and they have altered it three times free of charge (and still fits great). My next round of clothes I'm going to visit a local tailor, which apparently will alter clothes down as much as 6 inches in pants, and 4 inches in chest size. Not cheap, but if they last...

Also, my big pain in the ass is that I need a new GOOD jacket but don't want to spend $200 on something that I will swim in next winter. In the winter I do a lot of hiking instead of biking (can't stand the cold midwest winds on a bike) so I've learned to layer instead of buying a good jacket. It's been so cold, however, that I'm going to hit up the thrift stores this weekend.

Anyway, best of luck. I definitely know your pain

Fleece and a windproff with good underlayers will keep you warm in sub zero under exercise!
