4 days

I decided to cut sugar out of my diet....4th day and it is getting a little easier to bypass the sweets

Congrats. I think that sugar is as addictive as caffine, nicotine, and a lot of other bad stuff we put in our bodies. Keep up the good work.

oh I wish I had that kind of willpower. Although I have cut back a lot, don't know if I could go cold turkey.

Good job!

Are you cutting out Fructose and Sucrose as well, or just the granulated sugar?

Hambone 02-21-07 09:38 AM

I have an uncle who is a professor in the life sciences. (He wrote a popular text book on genetics.)

He said high fructose corn syrup is the devil's work. (OK, that may not be an actual quote but he hates that stuff and rails against it whenever somebody will listen.)

I believe that entirely. On another forum I made the statement "If you stab the devil, he'll bleed HFCS." Metabolically, that stuff is one of the worst things you can put in your system.

PS - What text did your uncle write? My background is in microbial recombinants, so I've probably read it. :)

Biology of Human Reproduction

(His last tirade was a bunch of years ago and it was against transfats. So even if he wasn't so damn smart, I'd listen to what he says.)

whatever you think of Atkins, he made a great point: "We would all be better off it we only shopped on the perimeter of our supermarkets."

I try to eat like a caveman within reason. A lot less process foods - almost no grains at all, vegetable, fruits, and then your basic protein. Fat generally from nuts. Once you adapt to it, it is pretty good.

I still have some of the bad things (i.e. processed) - but not everyday.
