hello all,

its been a while since i've taken the time to come by and post. while riding in some 35 degree weather it hit me that i should see about some toe covers or shoe covers to keep my feet warm. i picked up a couple from pearl izumi. MY FEET ARE TOO BIG (SIZE 15/EURO SIZE 50) has anyone else found toe covers shoe covers for HUGE shoes?

oh yeah. i'm slated to do my first century on april 1st then TOSRV south on april 21/22. i cant wait.

I am still a newbie to biking so I wear my running shoes. They literally have a thin mesh at the toes and I was out in about 20-30temps and my toes would be numb after 30mins. I decided to try duct tape on the toes just to get the wind off and it made a HUGE difference. Its a pretty ghetto mod but I am cheap lol.

I got a pair of the PI and they just barely fit my size 12. You might try some chem toe warmers:

I get them cheap at Walmart. They won't keep your toes toasty, but they will take the edge off.

I'm a 14 and the only ones I have found that fit are self branded shoe cover from Bike Tires Direct in Portland. They have worked pretty good but like any shoe cover they wear pretty quickly the more you walk in them. But at $19 I can go through a set a season.

Size 14 here and shoe covers on me look like houseboat covers!! Small children run away crying!

I use Gortex socks over a wool socks with my bike sandals. The gortex is an effective wind breaker and the wool is a good insulator even a little sweaty.

I wear size 47 Sidi's and the PI toe covers fit fine, but I understand your pain. I have been wearing DeFeet Woolie Boolies or their Blaze socks -- and they keep my feet warm enough I don't have to wear the toe covers (around 40s F)

Another reason why I refuse to use "cycling" specific shoes with clip in pedals. It severely limits ones ability to use whatever shoes for the weather at hand. I ride in skater shoes and wide cage pedals that support my feet with toeclips and loose fitting straps. I get a good spin and have good enough retention to ride at high rpms. In cold weather (32-40 degrees) I use wool socks. If its really cold, I can (and have) ride in cold weather boots, the kind that you normally wear when hunting or hiking.

By the way, they have their Woolie Boolie's half price in the clearance page. XL is the only size left, so sometimes pontoon feet can get you a bargain. I just ordered a couple pairs.
