I am about to pull the trigger on a new '06 Pilot. At 235 should I have any concerns amout the frame or the Bontrager race X-Light wheels that come with it?

I rode a lower-end Pilot and the salesperson assured me up and down that it'd be up to my 380+ butt. The only thing he recommended was a new rear wheel, but thought the front would hold up fine.

I ended up with a Trek 7.3 FX, but I will recommend that you at least have them check the spoke tension. I got back after a lunch ride today and noticed two of my rear spokes are pretty loose. Same thing was true about my Specialized Hardrock. Couple spokes were loose, and the rear came a tad out of true. I'm hoping this shop is as good about correcting that as the other shop was.

Otherwise, have fun with it. The LBS was willing to even provide me with a written frame guarantee, knowing my weight and everything. I don't remember which model, but it was one of the ones with the carbon stays and Al frame (not full carbon frame). I doubt you'll have any problems with it. I know someone who started riding a '06 Bianchi Giro at 220 and had 0 problems with it.

I've had a Pilot 5.2 since last year. Weigh in about 215. After about 1500 miles no issues. It's been a good ride.

That is the Pilot 2.1 and I'm looking at this bike pretty hard. Took it for a test ride and it was great.

Oh yeah, from looking at Trek's website you are correct. It's a great ride, smooth and faaaaast. Ended up with a FX partially because of cost and, well, a lot of because cost .

The Pilot series is sweet, though.

Well I picked up the '06 Pilot 5.9. It seemed like a great deal, 50% off MSRP but the entry was still steep...2200. Seems like a beautiful bike but it's raining her in L.A. today so I can't take the ribbon off yet.
