I Hate $#@%!*& winter

I hate $#@%!*& winter.

Last October I was doing great, then it started to rain, every day, until January 15th, when it got colder, and switched to snow. We have had a few sunny days, in the last couple of weeks, but it's still been cold. I do not ride, when there is salt on the roads, salt and aluminum bike frames do not mix well. If the current weekend forecast holds, Saturday will be +7C and rainy, that will take care of the salt. Sunday should be sunny and +6C, so I might ride around the block, just to open the season.

Now, over the winter my wife has been making noises about getting a bike, so we will be looking. My wife is in the Athena range, and hasn't been on a bike, in at least 15 years. A 'bent is not practical budget wise, since we are limited to under CA$600. I am thinking something like the Trek 7200 WSD as it fits in the price range, has 700C wheels and MTB style gearing, plus has a low step frame. Question is, would it be tough enough for Athena service?

You might want to post this in the Athena forum (Top of this page) and get some feedback there.
