Quite a surprize

Went over and parked at the trail head this a.m. and after I had taken my bike out and reached in for the front tire it wasn't there...hmmm. I should have known something was screwy because when I put the bike in, the front tire goes in last. Then I thought, where did I park yesterday? I had to park down the road at the boat launch because the trail head parking was full, only room for about 8 vehicles So packed back up and went down to where I had been yesterday and there it was leaning against a guardrail just where I had parked I was speechless.

Needless to say if I had left it in town I'd be pricing a new wheel. The thought was going through my head on the way to the boat landing. Drove back to the trail head and did my ride. On the way home I thought I'd stop by the lbs and drop the sled off for the 30 day inspection/tuneup although it's past due. Guy there had a phone number for me of someone local looking for someone to ride with.

Hmmmm must be eric's day!

What Luck! In most places that wheel would have been LONG GONE! I'm glad that didn't ruin your day or your ride.

Yeah I have lots of 'em. But my son just recently lost his wallet that he'd momentarily put on the top of his car when fueling it up. Well you guessed it, he forgot to get off the top of his car after he'd finished. His whole paycheck was in his wallet, so you can imagine how stressed and angry he was at himself.

A good simaritan (a preacher no less) found the wallet with nearly $400 in it and proceeded to hunt down my son. My wife's cell phone number was in the wallet, so he called her, asking if she was his mom. The minister was very cautious about it too, wanting to make sure the woman he was talking to was indeed the guys mother. It all turned out good, and when my son offered to give him $50, the minister refused to take it.

imagine that

I've found a two wallets and two cell phones while out riding. All owners were surprised when they got their stuff back. Recently found a wallet while out with my son and made him go with me to return it. I think it was a good lesson and the wallet had $80 in cash in it.

My really odd one I was out doing some trail maintenance and I hung my helmet on tree and walked/rode along stomping out ruts and removing some branches. Forgot my helmet until I got about a mile down the trail turned around and came back and my helmet was gone. So I rode out carefully and there was my helmet on a park bench. No one ever passed me so when they found my helmet they must have turned around and taken it straight back to the parking lot.

The Scoutmaster at the Bank

The best one (before the miraculous front wheel) was when I pulled into the bank drive up. Not right at the window, but at one of those tubes where you push the button to alert the teller to connect up the electrolux and whoosh a transaction into the building

I took the tube to put a check in it I suppose, don't really remember, and there was already an envelope in it. So I took it out and it was FULL of $20's. So I pushed the call button and told the girl about it and sent the tube back...then went about my business. About that time I noticed this older fellow walk up to my vehicle and asked me about a tube with something in it. I told him I sent it into the building. He looked at me sarcasticly and went in and promptly came out as I was pulling away. Kind of hailed me like you would a cabbie. Told me that he was a scoutmaster and that $400 was to get some supplies and things for a weekend outing. He told me I could've just driven away. I said: I had been a scout too and that my parents just didn't bring me up that way. No good would've ever come of it if I kept that money. Bad mojo / karma I guess. He just turned and walked away.

Not even a thank you.....oh well, guess I got my thank you finding my tire today.

Today a guy lost his Blue tooth ear piece when he fell on the grass right in front of a ramp leading to a bike shop. Many people ride right through that area. He got 30 miles away, realized it was gone and came back. It was right in the grass where he thought it would be. He left , and a group of cyclists came blasting through right were the bluetooth had been.

OK, this has nothing to do with biking, but when I lived in Los Angeles I TWICE left my wallet somewhere and had it returned intact.

once was in a shopping cart in a Costco parking lot. an employee returned it, although I think the manager was trying to steal it. the manager claimed to not know about it when I showed up to look for it, so I went around asking employees. one of them told me "I just turned it in a little while ago". I went back to the manger and he now, nervously, remembered it.

another time I dropped it in a theater in Santa Monica, although I didn't know that at the time. a week or so later I get a phone call from a middle eastern (?) man that I had some trouble understanding, saying he had my wallet and would send it back to me. I was so shocked that I just said "thank you" and didn't even think it through until after I hung up. I immediately thought I had been a total moron and was obviously being ripped off. after it didn't show up for a while I was sure of it, you couldn't ask for a more suspicious setup. a little while later (a week or two?) it showed up in the mail, completely intact.

Not long ago after riding I put my bike in the trap that is bolted to the toolbox in my pickup. I have to leave the tailgate down for everything to fit. Drove to the grocery store several miles away to pick something up for dinner. My wallet was not in it's usual spot in the door side pocket! I quickly realized that holy mother of pearl, I'd left it on the tailgate after loading the bike! Imagine my relief when it was still there... Biking really does give good karma.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Back when I was trucking, I lost a wallet in a rest area in Louisiana and it actually beat me home!

Another driver found it and fedexed it to my house. The $400 in cash was there as well, less the cost of the Fedex and a receipt and note replaced that letting me know.

I found a wallet in a campground down in the bottom of Savage Gulf a few years ago. Turns out the guy was from Huntsville. I found his phone number in the phone book, called him and arranged to have it returned. I had a guy who works on the arsonel return it to him. He knew where he lost it but going back down to that campsite is a days hike in and he didnt have time to go back when he discovered it missing. He was trying to find the time to return and hope it was still there. I found it 2 days after he lost it. I figgure if I hadnt found when I did it a fox or racoon would have soon toted it of to be lost forever. On my last trip I met a group from huntsville but not the same guys.

Wow! That's honesty for you. Glad to see there are still some good people out there.

After my first ever ride on my first ever road bike (just a few weeks ago), I came home and was conversing excitedly with my wife when my mother & stepfather dropped by. They live 3 hours away, so it was nice to see them. Then my wife's friend and her son came by as well. We stood there talking for awhile, and eventually (after showing everybody my new bike, and telling them all about my awesome first ride of 14 miles) I put the bike away. With everybody there, I forgot that I left my eyeglasses and digital camera on top of the car! Later that evening my wife drove into town to pick up some dinner - about a 20 mile round trip, mostly on an interstate. Even later I remembered that I needed my glasses, so I started looking for them. Backtracking in my mind where I had put them, I sadly realized that they had been on the roof of the car. I went to look, and of course the glasses weren't there - but the camera was!

Now I'm sure I won't ever forget my first ride.
